A large truck stop could have a T3 dedicated data line and it would still would not be enough. Between some performing updates and downloading this that and the other, and everbody running Netflix and browsing porn vids between 6 and 11, the bandwidth demand is off the charts. And cell towers will bog down with peak data usage in some places. You can complain all you want but there are certain realities that can't be overcome without very expensive technology and services and too few truckers will pay what is required.
Best thing you can do long term is get a Verizon 4G LTE device. Millinecom is the better provider in terms of cost per gig and limits and also happens to not require a contract and up front cost is reasonable. -
Remember the feeling of sitting there waiting for the lines to roll across your screen wondering what the picture would be? "oh its a blonde...Oh she has a nice tan." 30 seconds later "I better get my lube ready"... "oh she has nice b00bies"... 2 minutes later.... "my lube is drying up..." Then the lines quit coming at her belly button..
3 minutes later....... CONNECTION LOST...
If you're 35 to 50 years old, you've been there. Dont lie.K9OTR and StayBusyTrucker Thank this. -
On Compuserve, no less? LOL

i remember buying the aol disc with internet time on them....and then you get on and you have to hear that insane screech of the dial up modem...was annoying
-
You mean this? ... Ad the 9600k baud modems followed up by the speedy 14.4k And you had to tweak the modem commands to get the maximum speed (maybe 10k real throughput) and get the handshake just right

And "Net Zero" where 1/2 of your bandwidth was eaten up by mandatory ads you had to "view". -
oh gawd its horrible...im melting im meeeelllttting ah what a world

Wandering WiFi, the outfit that T/A and Petro uses, is a joke. Most of the time, the wifi signal inside the resturants is overloaded with users and slow as hell. I keep a Virgin Mobile stick active as a backup for those times...

I never pay nor would I give Loves, Pilot , etc a penny for wifi. I do use free wifi at some places. Cimarran Truck Plaza in OK has good wifi. West-To-Go in Tye,TX is another. There are some good ones scattered. The Pilot in Edmonds had free wifi last time I was there. Not sure why. Maybe because of all the competition in the area.
