Even with getting shut down by the storm in SD I still had a decent . Heading to ft worth for Monday, should have about 2800 for the week. I wish gettin shut down for 18 hours and still delivering only 5 hours late would show them i can run and get me more miles but yeah right...

I think the miles have more to do with the DM than anything . Ft.Worth huh , well here's hoping you don't end up in Carrolton !!

Hey Azcannon and Noggin, thanks for the information you guys put out here. Doing my research on companies and Melton is right up there. Talked with Shayla (sp?) today and she seemed up front with information. Bit of back ground, retired from Naval aviation so pre-trip, planning, post trip and changing on the fly is no big deal; pretty similar to flying just a bit slower. Been mentally abusing children for several years (6th grade teacher) and got my CDL last summer in anticipation of starting a 3rd career. Been working with a small regional company over breaks, weekends and summer for the experience and just for the fun of it. Get to haul water loads frequently, so being heavy isn't something that I am unfamiliar with. The one thing that has me a bit "concerned" is Melton's orientation/training. At this point the driving and time management is less of a concern, but securing loads looks a bit intimidating. Seems like the securement training is pretty short for something that, if not done right, can have pretty catastrophic effects on me and those around me. Do they keep you on short runs for the practice? What kind of mentoring/help on the road is there? Does the company have a securement manual to give you guidance in addition to the DOT? Looks like I would train out of the Youngtown, OH terminal so any information how that would lood would be nice. Probably just being a nervous Nelly, but any insight in this area would be appreciated.

Securing loads is all common sense , you will learn the rules you need to know in orientation, then its slot a into round peg hole b. when in doubt call safety they don't judge you just help, no runs you get are runs you get , new guys seem to get a few long ones when they start out but it normalizes quickly . EVERY Melton driver will gladly help you and you will have a few cell numbers to call when in doubt and you just want opinions on other ways of skinning cats, ( mainly cause thats all cats are good for ). Securement manual is more like a chapter in the Employee handbook -however many loads are simple and many wouldn't be easy to cover in a manual. Again common sense is your friend.

Its just learning a new skill , not a big deal and when you see some of the goober flatbed guys out there you will laugh at yourself for ever doubting you could do it.

lol I need to be rolling at 6 am tommorrow and right now I am hoping I don't do the same thing ,..... long day getting out of the republic of CA
My load is kinda funny , I am hauling 20 - 55 gallon drums of metal hole punches( punchings to be exact ). yes exactly what you think I mean. On its way to mexico. Easy easy load . If I drop it before 5 tommorrow I can dh home otherwise I have to spend a night somewhere. Also I am driving by Tombstone tommorrow so thats kinda cool.
