I've ran twice out of Shell Rock, IA hauling that cheap stone for Midwest Manufacturing aka Menards. First time I spent 3/4 of my 14 hour clock waiting in line to load. By the time I was loaded and had bills in hand my clock had already expired. Fortunately our "safe haven halo" allowed me to get to the truck stop out by 218 to finish my 10 that I had started back at the strapping zone. Second time they overloaded me with an "add-on" that just had to go and wouldn't take anything else off for that matter. I took the load after conferencing with dispatch and knowing there were not any permanent scales along the route.
As for Shakopee...things have been cranking back up again, and wait times are getting longer again. I still haven't figured out their loading process yet though. I can be there the max. 1 hour before your appointment time, checked-in, and in the staging lot. But after sitting for 2 hours waiting, they'll take a truck that just pulled in 15 minutes ago ahead of me and load them. Also, the rates back to Iowa (I usually get dispatched to the Quad Cities) are not that great either that I've seen.
Just my $.02 on the subject.
Is a steady load of block an shingles a good gig or not?
