Hundreds of Siricomm hot spots have gone cold

The company went belly up.

 

Holy crap! $1.85 million in bills and I would cut them off too! They also had that crappy trucker myspace type of site as well. Hell, they SHOULD have come to me and asked me how there is NO $$$ in this...I could've saved them a lot, LOL. I do not think they realized that truckers and WI-FI really don't mix too well as how do you park an 80' long rig by a building to get it? Of course, we all know there isn't enough parking...so to buy that WI-FI is a waste when you can get a wireless aircard and park almost ANYWHERE on the side of the road and get the net. Truckers and WI-FI don't work...never will. It's common sense that if the driver pulls in to the "hotspot," can't park due to it being full...he/she will drop the service. Urr Durr.

 

I find all WI-FI services at truck stops to be a waste of money. If you pay monthly or annually. It cost more than your average HOME service, which everyone at home has access to 24/7/364. While you as a driver only get to access the truck stop version for a few hours a week, if that.

I do occasionally buy a 24 hour card...but it's very rare. I have to be taking my 34 for that to happen. I done it once last year.

Now, I don't even need a card for my PC. I can simply plug my cell into a USB port, and away I go. But I rarely do that.

 

Half the time, I couldn't get a wifi signal unless I took my laptop inside and plugged right into their service. It was a waste of money, IMO. That's why I got an aircard. Best thing I ever did.

The truck stops should figure out how to sell an aircard and make some money off that - I'm sure they'd sell well!!

Ah... say what? I use Wi/Fi exclusively while on the road. unless its Siricomm your talking about you don't need to be parked that close to a building, but then if it is Siricomm your talking about you must be parked on the building.
Yet one more company has gone the way of "PnV" remember them?

 

Siricomm was the only one I really had trouble with....dropped signals, constantly snails pace....no signal unless you were practically on top of the building... the FJ's and TA's are much better...and the one with probably the best signals are actually Idle Aire....I havent even considered an Air Card yet...maybe sometime soon, you never know!
