I have been combing threads and searching Google to find some info to transport Freightliner Columbia that I want to buy it from Concordia, Kansas and move it to the Canadian border @ Blaine, Washington.

My question is; What is my option to drive it by myself? Should I get any permits to do so? Should I call the DOT?

Any info to help will be great, thanks in advance.

Does it have a valid safety sticker?

You need to first send a copy of the bill of sale, front n back of the title and a form to US customs at the border crossing you will cross at. Call US customs n they will tell you where to find this form (I cant remember the website). They need to have all these things at least 72 hrs in advance of you showing up there with the truck. You will need to see ICBC for a binder policy on this truck, I think they are available for 10 days at a time. That should be all you need. Is this truck from a dealer? Will they supply a temp. tag for it? You MUST have the original title in your hands when you show up at US customs for them to export it properly. Then you will need to see CDN customs to import it, broker it, pay the GST and excise tax. You can broker it yourself, I have done a few now n its pretty easy if you follow the instructions on the computer they provide you to do it with.

Just buy an Intransit sticker for it all the way into Canada. You don't have to go into any scales as it's not a Registered Commercial Vehicle.

Might not need to go into the scale but might save some time by going into them. From the scale house they can not see the sticker and might want to chase you down thinking your running them.

He would be bobtailing, no scale would chase him down- there's no fines to be made from a bobtailing semi!
