getting a code 2357 , egr mechanical malfunction, I heard somewhere if I just remove it and clean all the crud out, should do the trick, anything to that?
I cleaned all the tubes out, cleaned a fairly new (last year) egr pressure sensor.
still getting a cough under a load when accelerating, is that what you mean when referring to "derating"?
not sure...
and the engine warn light.
been thinking of doing the disconnect trick and running it like that but, is that some kind of option to my current woes?
anyway, to remove the egr valve, looks like just 2 bolts and another tube...
can I just pop them off remove the egr and clean briskly?
thanks
Kevin

You have the two 10 mil bolts then there is two coolant line may not have to remove them then there is the egr clamp with a 10 mil I believe once you open up the Clamp put a screwdriver in and put down the egr and check the valve see if its stuck open if not open then you have to check because that sounds like a different issue. Let me know if you need any more help

My recent thread here: http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...2-isx-475-backfire-intake-between-shifts.html describes what sounds like your issue, and how we resolved it.
Good luck.hd99_fatboy Thanks this. -
ya checked your post, seems a bit different symptom, I only experience the cough on acceleration under a load, not shifting in either direction.
similar for sure, but not quite. you seem to get it when reving to grab a gear, or no load, where I see it upon applying with load...
I don't... -
do you know of any quickserve document that goes into a little more detail?
on removing egr that is.
thanks -
There isn't much to replacing/removing it. Drain coolant, remove the little heat shield, three bolts hold that on. There are two coolant lines that need to be disconnected. Disconnect your two electrical connections. The EGR valve is mainly held to the engine by the upper V-band clamp. There is a second one at the cooler connection. Disconnect the V-band clamp between the EGR valve and cooler first because this connection is flexible and hard to deal with if you disconnect the other one first. After that disconnect the upper V-band clamp and pull out the valve. If you have never removed V-band clamps before they will be stuck between the two parts and you will have to use a long screw driver or something and a hammer to pop them loose. There will be o-ring seals inside the fittings for the small coolant lines that will have to be replaced, they will be shot and not reusable. I like to disconnect the lower coolant line at the egr cooler, not the valve itself since the line is kinda in behind the valve and a PITA to remove. Then that line comes out with the EGR valve. As for cleaning it, there is really nothing to do. When you remove it, if the poppet valve head is sticking up at all the valve is shot. With the valve closed there is no access to the stem or anything. All you can do is check it for cracks. I know they are a lot of money, but it is kinda dumb to remove one with this fault code, inspect it and reinstall it. You are pretty much looking at replacing it. Afterwards you should go to a Cummins dealer and have the ECM calibration checked. There are several software updates for increased EGR valve reliability improvements.

Remove the heat shield and the clamp and just drop it down with a screwdriver you'll see right away if its stuck a little open that will give you the issue you're having paired with lack of power it's really simple to do u don't even have to take off the coolant lines to check it

thanks bro, I'll give it a shot next week, will have some time off.
if I run it like that a few more daze, will it hurt it?
what can I expect to pay for a new egr valve? -
Disconnect the two wire plug and you can run, no problem. I have no idea on price, sorry.

Prob 1 k give or take depends if u do the work yourself it won't hurt it u can run like that
