When to do dpf regen

I just bought a 2009 pete 387 with a c15.


I have a switch on the dash panel near the radio that controls the dpf. The bottom position is for turning it off, the second or middle position of the rocker switch is on, i am assuming, and the very up position of the rocker switch has a marking that looks like three scoops of ice cream on a sugar cone, turned on its side....



Is that top position to do a manual regen? if so, what is the correct procedure?... do i just turn the truck on and the switch up? do i have to set the rpms high or is it automatic?


Also, how often is it supposed to regen by itself and is there something on the dash that will come up? couple of days ago a light came on the dash with the ice cream cone logo and i looked on the driver side visor and it said that the light means the exhaust is hot...is that when the regen is happening?
the other light, according to the visor means that the dpf is clogged and needs to go to the shop...how often should a manual regen be done inorder to avoid the clogging

lastly, the dealer told me that they cleaned the dpf, is there a way to verify that?


is there a guide for the right procedure for regen?
