driving yesterday, my engine fan kicked on, then my yellow dash light engine warning came on. both went off after 5-10 seconds. this would repeat sporadically. drove 80 miles. during that time it occurred less, coming on every 25 miles instead of every 5 min. got to the exit where truck shop is & then the red engine stop light came on along with the yellow & the engine fan. this would repeat every 3-5 seconds. got to the shop & codes 23 & 44 showed up. turned truck off, checked everything concerning problem, could not find anything. shop left the hand held comp hooked up to the truck & told me to take it for a drive. started up, drove 10 miles & back. no problem no codes. left shop delivered load, drove 50 miles no problems. now for back round info... this happened last year. my truck is fine engine wise. coolant, oil, everything. the shop guy who fixed this last time said it was a ground that went to all the sensors in the wiring harness & he put another one on. I called him, but he does not remember what he did & is out of town. when this happened last year I had him bypass the safety so the truck would not shut off on me. I have a truck yard nearby where I can have a used wire harness pulled off, but I will have to wait a day or so for them to get to it off old engine on yard. I know my truck, I know how it smells, sounds. e.t.c. I know nothing is wrong as far as driving it as long as it stays running. does anyone know anything in particular I may check? I have a short run, 90 miles to do, today & reload back 90 miles. hate to lose the day's pay, or more. the engine lights & fan coming on does not bother me as much, so long as the engine stays running. any thoughts on this? just want to make it til I can get the harness replaced. lost work all last week due to having something else fixed, now this. thanks for your input.

looks like wiring problem....

well no codes today, ran 205 miles. getting used wire harness tomorrow.

did you find out what's wrong with your truck
-
no. it has been working without any problems since. all I, the shop did was move wires around to see if anything was out of the ordinary. it has to be a ground somewhere. I have a wire harness in my side pocket for a spare. I am almost sure it is a ground from the e.c.m. not a battery, or starter ground. it is the ground that several sensors are hooked to. when the ground defects all the sensors throw a code. I should of asked the guy when he replaced it to show me what he did. I remember him saying he took ground wire off & it looked good, but he replaced it anyway, except he had to make one end of the wire to fit, after that I had no problems . so that fixed it. it must be the same wire, got loose or one of then ends lost contact & when we moved wires around it did something.

Sometimes even though wires are tight and look to be in good condition a thin layer of corrosion forms in between the contact surfaces and the simple action of disconnecting and reconnecting is enough to scrap it off and reestablish a good electrical connection. One of the weird mysteries!

Yeah your right. after the shop took the old ground off there were no visible signs of anything wrong. one time I was looking at my hot & ground battery cables. they looked good, had the thick red& black rubber coating, but I for some reason took a razor blade & cut back 3-4 inches of the coating & the copper wire was green with corrosion.
