It's a runaway engine not an entire truck in case anyone is wondering.

The idjit driver was more worried about making a video than stopping the engine. Hope his boss fires him.

Happen to me in a Mack. Just stomp the brakes as hard as you can in high gear and stall it to a stop.

Or if not driving, pop hood, cut rubber boot at intake and cover with something to stop the air. A clipboard will work. Shove a shirt in there or a towel. Save the engine.

What would cause that, a fault in the fuel pump?

If you listen to the video, he said the cops would not let him near it. They also blocked off traffic.

Wow. Well that Pete needs a new engine now. It said in the title that the seals went in the turbo. Ok that would explain all the smoke from the burning oil but with the engine running wide open like that? I would guess a fault in the fuel pump or in the injectors somewhere.

If the information re: the turbo, is true, then the engine was ingesting oil (as fuel) via the turbo. Unrestricted fuel = unrestricted RPMs. This is the reason we have positive air shutoffs in the oil patch... a leak of an airborne volatile gas will have the same effect. Even with the key (fuel solenoid) shut off, the alternative fuel will cause the engine to run away. I have seen the results of similar incidents; one where almost an entire frac spread burned up.

Probably unburned diesel as a result of a failed turbo putting the full load on the engine.
