(honest question, so don't flame me).......................... Could it be that Schneider will train you, and the rest expect for you to already have that experience?

Or are you saying the "outfits" that are supposedly taking newbies (to haul water if im not mistaken) with no experience will train you, and STILL pay more than Schneider?

Schneider sounds like a place to get your foot in the door, plus they'll keep you safe. I've got a interview Fri. morning for a crude co. I've got no experience but got to start somewhere, their safety minded that counts a lot to me.

yeah i might be going the same route. I'm in stuck in so cal and dont want to do o.t.r. and really want to get out of the state. i like being home in the evening and am used to working from 430 am-630 pm. and i guess it would also help getting some experince first with them . i was hoping to get into fracing or cementing as seeing thats what my father did before taking a job at dhs.

I have been hauling crude in North Dakota for over a year. Last summer I decided to work for Schneider in Texas (Corpus) hauling oil. What a mistake! These guys did not know what they were doing. The drivers did not even know how to buy their own oil. They had to have someone in a SUV with a grind out box in the back to test the oil. I left in less than a month because of safety concerns. None of the drivers were H2S safety trained or OSHA certified. I actually heard a BDL tell a driver not to worry about having an H2S monitor, just go on and we will get you one later. I have seen several schneider drivers (I have pictures) dome their trailers over because other drivers did not empty the trailers out on the preceding load. How can you leave a LACT or pipeline facility with oil in your trailer? My opinion is that they were not willing to listen to people who know what they are doing. Schneider feels that they can run their oil field division the same as OTR trucking. I hope that they are doing better now. I would hope that nobody ever gets hurt or killed because of improper training.

Very good comments from the newbies and the people who have experienced SNI.

For the newbie, if you can get on with SNI then you will get the experience you need to move on to a better job in 6-12 months. They will put you through a driving school for a week if you have little experience in that area. You will get a bonus every 3 months. If your truck or trailer is unsafe they do not make you operate it. There are some positives to be gained.

As the experienced mention, the pay is lower than you will make other places. You will be told to go out and do your job without an H2S monitor. Your tanker will not have a gage on it, so you will have to climb to the top of your tanker at the end of each unload and check to make sure no oil was left behind. You will slip seat with some jerk who leaves lots of trash behind or doesn't want to report a problem with the truck/trailer after they are done so you will have to deal with the issues.

NO H2S monitors from a mega company who could buy them in bulk like WalMart?? And you drive onto sites that are marked clearly that it may be present??? I thought they were sooooo safe. Think all that crap and prehire testing to see if you can bend over and pickup a box or pull a pallet jack is just to protect their smelly rear ends and they could give a sheet about you or if you are overcome out in bum ###### Egypt by poison gas??? I knew they were rats but didn't realize they were down to CR England level.
IF YOU DECIDE TO GO RAT AND WORK FOR SCHNEIDER OR ANY OTHER COMPANY GET AN H2S MONITOR IF YOU HAVE TO BUY IT YOURSELF !!! Start at around $100 and go up. This stuff is not to be messed with. Hopefully the RRC or OSHA will come down hard on these maggots. They have the resources to do it right. But they wrote the book on making money off the backs and safety of the driver.

After about 3 weeks they finally did get me an H2S monitor. Funny thing...they put me on the cover of the safety handbook and photoshoped one onto me!
