I am beginning my third week here and to say I am disappointed is putting it mildly.
The initial classroom instructor, Donna Pickett, is excellent. SHe is patient and amazingly tolerant and gets the material taught in a way that makes sense.
The trucks at this school are TRASH however. They are worthless. I have had my permit for a week and have only been on the range twice and YET to be on the road. There are others in the same boat. Yet there are about 14 or so people who have drive all day everyday this week. That is crap.
Then there is Keith Shelley who "instructs" you once you move to the trucks. Oh wait no he doesnt he just calls roll and ####### you out unless of course your an African American female.....we have one of those and she had her permit since THURSDAY thats ONE class day and she got into a truck on the street. Why? Simple because she batted her eyes at SHelley
And dont start on Walter Bell the worthless piece of #### who runs this school. STAY AWAY FROM C1

...so let me get this straight: You are in your 3rd week at the school, but have only had your permit for 1 week? What were you doing for those first 2 weeks, and what took you so long to get your permit? Granted it has been a few years, but when I went through there, we took the written tests to get our permits on the first day of class and on Thursday of week 2, I took my road test to get my CDL. Then I left.
If you are behind due to your own inability to pass the written tests to get your permit, how is that the school's fault?mje and Wildhorse192001 Thank this. -
post#2 makes alot of since. Please explain how the school is at fault if you've only had your permit for a week and starting your 3rd week.I think had you got your permit before starting school then you would have got out on the range right awy.But in case you did'nt know, you're not allowed to drive a semi with an instructor till you do have your permit.

I'm with pedigreed, I was outta there Thursday week 2 just like you. Keith was very professional as was Walter. Walter is a very short tempered guy but its a good introduction to trucking for you, that's pretty much how it is out here. The trucks I agree are not the best, but there's no sense in putting a bunch of rookies in a 100,000 dollar rig so they can grind the gears out of it and snap u joints and such, look at it like that. Jackie was my instructor then and I still to this day stop by there whenever I have time ( which hasn't been for a while ) to say hi to him because he was a great person. Not everyone has such a negative opinion of that school, but you're entitled to yours, good luck!

Maybe you should bat your eyes at Keith too and see if that helps.Wildhorse192001 and mje Thank this.

Im at C1 in Ft. Wayne and on some points i agree but not others. The entire problem with C1 I see is too many students. Im just here for a refresher course since Ive had my class A for almost 2 years but never used it. In any case, this school truck time for students is FAR less than the school I originally went to in NY. In The CDL School they broke us up in groups of 3 and we took turns doing manuvers all day, every day. At C1 Ft. Wayne youre in a group of up to 10! Ive gotten in to practice range manuvers ONCE a day except Thursday when I didn't even get any time. I just need to get my feeling back and I barely get a chance to. The instructors are all doing the best they can but there's far too many people training.
