There are 2 groups of organised drivers - OOIDA and the Teamsters . They usually oppose each other .
OOIDA is totally ineffective trying to change regulations . Yeah , they succeeded in keeping FMCSA. From mandating EOBR's a a punitive measure . Thanks to that EOBR's WERE mandated for all heavy trucks as part of the Highway Bill .
Teamsters are more effective because they pay millions to politicians .
That's what it takes . Money talks and regulations will continue to have nothing to do with safety

 

Agreed. EOBRs/elogs has nothing to do with safety, unless you count compliance with the HOS rules as the vehicle for providing rested drivers. That's the FMCSAs position on fatigue from the Minnesota Fatigue Questionaire case recently resolved in federal court. EOBRs/elogs has everything to do with making enforcement of HOS compliance easier for the government (if DOT cops ever become computer literate,) increasing cost-efficiency and equipment utilization rates for carriers, and decreasing the exposure of carriers to logging-related CSA violations.

EOBRs/elogs and the latest revision of the Hours of Service rules are here whether we like it or not. Anne Farro, the FMCSA administrator has said in a recent interview that this stuff is coming... this year. The new HOS rules are here, and it doesn't look like the court challenges are going to change anything. Protest of this isn't going to do anything except get you booked into the slam, and your rig towed.

Manditory EOBRs/elogs for all commercial vehicles will be in a proposed rule-making later this year. This is the only place where we can make a difference at this point, and that is by contacting your representatives in the House and Senate. Shaping what that rule looks like is about all that's left that we can do.

Disclaimer: Yup, I'm on elogs, and in my current situation, I like them just fine. I'm going to be purchasing a truck, and as a owner-operator, I have no use for the dang thing. It's an unjustified expense for the small-business owner operator, and paper logs are the way to go.

 

Must have a short memory if you actually read any of my posts. Either that or I must be the only one who actually uses and likes e-logs and does NOT want any mandate put into place. I would prefer that everyone have a choice of paper or e-log. What is actually amusing in this thread is the personal attacks being leveled against those that do use e-logs by those who do not. Man, you can sure tell the level of paranoia to e-logs by those reactions. When in actuality, no one can EVER be forced to use e-logs, even if a mandate becomes reality. They can always choose to park the truck and put a for sale sign in the window. So the choice will always be there and no one's freedom is jeopardized.

 

i didnt get a ticket but was told i had to show on dujty not driving. i got on the phone and called around and was told yes if you are in sleeper berth and you come out of the sleeper than yes you must log a change of status. thats why i show off duty

 

Pretty bad when a Barney wants to play stupid little games with the technicalities of the regulations. That is more a reflection of that LEO's mental handicap than anything else.

 

The fact remains that the FMCSA knows it screwed up and made more unsafe drivers when they took away the 5 and 5 rule hencse all these back to back HOS changes. they just wont man up and admit to the public and fix it. instead they do this stupis crap.

 

You could only wish it will come so soon.I realize most of you e-loggers are broke,unhappy and miserable people.Even if it does ''come'',it will be 2-3 years before everyone is ''forced'' to get it.Not to mention the many many ''Lawsuits''........

So keep on believing all the BS that is shoved down your throat from your so called ''superiors'' that no nothing..

its the eloggers that gloat at how "the end is near" and how everyone else is an outlaw, and they must CHEAT to make money

i dont care if you use eobrs, elogs, or stay home and collect a check, but the point is that you advocate this nonsense as being inevitable and instead of fighting against it, you lay down and accept it

thats my point about this whole thing

if drivers would quit these companies that demanded elogs, we wouldnt even be having this conversation

when my mega told me to go elogs, i told him where to go
