Good evening to all who read this and are willingly to assist.
I'm looking to starting a new career for 2008 and since I've always LOVED trucks I'll like to became a truck driver.

Question is: does a felony charge on someone's background hinder the chances for obtaining a CDL license? I would hate to take a course only to find out that Felons can not get the license. Can anyone please advise corectly if they no the answer to my question?

Does anyone know of a friend who has a truck driver that has a felony who has a CDL. Again thanks to all...

As far as a felony goes that all depends on what the felony was for. I have a felony on my record and just finished MTC in Hazelwood MO. there was no problem getting the cdl the problem is on what company will hire you with a felony on your record. I have been accepted at 2 different companies now so I am quite relieved of the stress of finding a job after schooling. If your felony is at least 10 years old you should not have a problem getting pre-hired. Good Luck :biggrin_25520:

like mentioned about. a felony will not effect youre getting a CDL, though in some states it can make it harder to get HAZMAT endorsement. But even the big companies want 5-10 yrs from the last felony to consider employment. seeing as yours was 14 yrs you should do fine. best of luck.

Ever since the 9/1/1 incident, hazmat now requires a background check that may be more trouble then it is worth, in Pa if you lose your driver priveledges with a hazmat, everything is tripled on the penal end. drive55cat

You probably will be able to get the license but hard to find a job.

A lot of company's will ok a felony if its over 7-10 yrs old. There is a few that wont take any felony but most are pretty lenient. With it being that old--he shouldnt have too much of an issue with it. It just depends on the company and what the felony is for.

Apply at the companies you want. They'll sort it out for you.

I used to know a website that actually told which companies would hire felons, actually it was part of the questionaire the company had to fill out to submit their company for posting so it should be reliable.

It should be still around, it hasn't been that long since I saw it.

    Good luck to you.
