Single 22 Year old from Texas seeking advice...

Take a look at Roehl. Schooling is in Wisconsin unless you get your CDL schooling in Texas then you start out as an inexperienced driver at the terminal in Grand Prairie, TX. There is a East Texas regional fleet and the standard OTR fleet to choose from out of Texas.

 

I also will put a vote in for Roehl. I haven't been to their school yet, but will be soon, and my research has told me they are a great starter company. You can either pay for the school up front, or if you work for them they will either reimburse you or you can have them pay for the whole thing up front. So far my experience with them has been great.

 

you would make more money in the military. 1 paid meals 2 paid housing 3 paid clothing at the start. 4 better pay rate. look into the air force as they have the best pay and best school program. 5 steady pay the 1st and 15 like a swiss clock. company driver just startin make maybe enough to eat on for the first 2 or 3 months than 500 to 600 a week if your lucky...not to be mean but just starting in trucking you will be making less than crap wages and at the rate trucking is going down be lucky to see the same wages as a burger boy.....

 

2votes for the military...Air Force, or whatever service, your choice, dont foget the Coast Guard.
The military helps train you to handle stress. Wish I would've stayed in long enuf to retire, I really enjoyed being in the Army. And you can sign up for tuition assistance for school.

All military branches pay the same. But I would choose military over trucking at 22 then truck after the military. Who knows you just might be retired before your 42 with a nice pension and than you could truck.

 

Do people shoot at you or put IEDs in your path in trucking?

i'd suggest skipping the trucking gig but that only makes u want to try it more cuz thats how it goes. im in your situation also trying to find my place in the world but theres no room unless you know somebody, that knows somebody

 

Don't you live near Chicago? Shouldn't you be answering yes to your own questions?!?!?

 

Sadly trucking is not a high paying job and if you have that mindset that it is. You will be very disappointed like all the rest of the people who get their cdl and after 6 months never drive a truck again. All of the outfits who train you pay for your training will be bottom of the barrel. There is nothing free in this world. So if you can hang on for a few years until you get experience. Then you may see improvements in pay. But this is not as easy as it looks. Dealing with companies who can care less about you getting home or miles. Everybody being in a hurry that can cause you to get into an accident. Even if its not your fault. It will still be hard trying to find work. So please think twice about this industry. It eats people up and spits people out every few seconds.
