I am afraid of becoming a trucker for multiple reasons. One of them is: I fear for my health and safety at truck stops. I am a very young and very attractive and very in shape woman. I fear that I will be a target for the men at truck stops. What do you think?

I already looked at that, but it did not answer all of my questions.

I saw you other post Alison, I think you will be fine, just use common sense , there are a lot of attractive female drivers out here already.

Oh honey, you don't have to be young, attractive or in shape to be the target of men in truck stops. Just being female is good enough for some. Welcome to the jungle! :)

It's not like it used to be. It's a lot safer out here. But, we all have to use common sense too. You might be thinking every driver is all horned up and ready to take you. That's not true. Sure, there are some scumbags out here. But the majority of the drivers anymore respect women and boundaries and will have your back in a second. You'll be fine.

He has some important points. As the legal field of sexual harassment has evolved, companies can become liable for allowing sexual harassment at their places of business. Even if it is not an employee, but another customer. If you are at a truck stop and are being harassed by a trucker and you complain to an employee about the harasser and they continue to let it happen, they can be liable for some serious financial damage. Therefore, most should go out of their way to aid you. This includes truck stops, shippers, receivers and even other company drivers.

What all this is meant to say is that sexual harassment should not be tolerated and companies, even though their motivation may only be to protect their bottom line, will/should help alleviate any harassing behaviors.

btw, sexual harassment and a hostile work environment are generally legally defined by the person feeling harassed. Even if someone does not think their behavior is harassing, if you think it is, the courts usually side with the person feeling harassed.
