If the truck ain't mine I'm not turning a wrench on it. Period. I will add fluids, air, and fuel. I don't care if that makes me a steering wheel holder.......as long as I'm a check holder at the end of the week.
What are yalls opinion on this job

I think you neglected to see the most important part of his post. FOR FREE
Sure it is one thing to help someone out. No problem with working on the truck. Busting tires, may not be a particularly pleasant job, but there are worse. But FOR FREE?????
I think not.Budha and Tonythetruckerdude Thank this. -
Like some of the others have said, I'm not real big on working for family or friends. I have done it in the past, but I've never been comfortable with it. I've also had friends working for me. It can make for a delicate workplace relationship.
How many hours a week is this job supposed to be? If you are looking at a 50 hour week, you only looking at fourteen bucks an hour. I don't know what going wages are in your area, but that isn't a lot of money, no matter how you look at it. OTOH, it might give you some more specialized experience, and gets you home every day. But I still don't like the idea of working for a family friend.
In fact, being as how it is not just YOUR friend, but your family's friend, if things go south, it could screw up your relationship with your family as well. Just a bit of food for thought. Only you can make the decision.truckon Thanks this. -
I know how to bust down tires before him teaching me , I used to work in a semi tire shop. I know enough mechanic work to get me by if I need to get by from growing up around this industry. There's a difference between helping someone out and giving them the tips and education needed , and then someone who sits there and watches other guys bust there ### to fix his equipment.

I think working at any smaller company, more flexibility is a given. Typically working at small companies have great work atmosphere and a family feel to the whole thing. But, they are more limited and I could see myself be willing to be much more active in the maintenance and repair at a small company than at a big one. Just my opinion.
btw, my experience is that it is definitely possible to mix work and friendship. I worked for a friend of mine who was more of a big brother to me than my own big brother ever thought of being. Couple of times along the way there was some disagreement about money, but it was usually a small amount and it wasn't worth putting our friendship at risk over. I knew his character and he would never purposely take advantage of me. I simply dropped it and forgot about. He died of a sudden heart attack a little less than 2 years ago and I still miss him quite a bit. -
God made truckers out of steel. Not easy, not always kind, but when you close that left door, Your the Boss. To most of us, that means a lot.
