You would have to give a driver a pretty ''cheap'' wage for it to work..I do not think drivers will be happy in the long run running for a BCO...

Tough call, you can see the boards. Does any of your agent base do van freight as well? Are you planning on buying a box or taking 65% or whatever your contract says? Is his plan to switch to platform after he gets his 6 months in? Being a lazy Ranger driver, I've thought about pulling a box in the winter, but never saw any freight to make it worth while. The paid for truck is a huge plus as you don't have much to lose. Good luck

Some do most stick to platform frieght only. The few that do dryvan said they can help me out, which is good gets me started and going. Im going to start with one of LS vans, if i buy anything it will be a platform

If he wants to go platform anyway, try to sweet talk LS and tell them you'll mentor him and see if he can go to securement in St Aug from the start. Having at least a couple agents will be helpful either way.

I keep an eye on the loadboards for van work, and I've found in the midwest, if you run about a 5 state radius (IN/IL/OH/WI/MI/KY) you can do pretty well with 1 load a day and avg rates are around $800 a day to the truck if you work it right. The problem most guys have is that they see loads for $3k going to dead freight zones and jump on it. I don;t feel that LS is a good place for OTR or coast-to-coast van work. Some do well, but not most.

And remember that van lanes are usually the complete opposite of us platform guys.

    landstar8891 Thanks this.

Every single driver i talk to that is working for a ''BCO'' IS GETTING ripped off...There is just no way to satisfy a driver with the wages left over...Landstar need to give us a RAISE and stop being greedy PIGS...And that they are..
