I've been having that discussion for years.. "we should be compensated for all time spent at shippers and receivers"... You do spend all that time on duty to show your work time right? ..... "Well of course not! We'd never make any money".... We have met the enemy..

And that is a perfect example of lack of KNOWLEDGE by the drivers and not having a BACKBONE.
I negociate every aspect of the load and it will be FAXED and confirmed in writing. This all has to be gone over on every single load or i move on to the next load..SIMPLE. -
not going to ask what your reasoning is.
Legal is legal.
Same as those big white rectangular signs showing what speed is legal to drive.

You assume wrong . If we have to leave the truck while it is unloaded we are off duty . If it takws over 2 hours we get detention time .
I have also collected detention time while taking a 10 hour break . The customer pays for detention of the trailer and I get a percentage . -
Now there's one I can counter.
Got load one day, short run, had to be in Lakeville, MN at ConAgra by 1800. Got there just prior to that. Was going to unload and take a full 10, as my day was shot. They couldn't get to me till 0700 the next day. Showed about 10 minutes on duty for a post trip, and I took a full 10 in the sleeper there, and got unloaded in the morning. Great, now had the load off, a fresh 11 to do my thing for the day, and..... two weeks later, got $375 in detention in that week's settlement. It all depends on your carrier and the customer you are dealing with. I have gotten detention several times while using sleeper and off duty. And it is on E-log. -
