Starting new job hopefully. Yrc Freight Dock worker. I have very little experience driving a truck I do have cdl with all endorsements. I'm starting on the dock and maybe work up into a combination driver. The company says I may be able to work the dock and pick up the slack for drivers that miss a day or ect.....Question how long would it take working on the dock before making it to a driver or permanent driving position. I hear it is a union job and it takes senority to get a driver position. The other sad part of the story is another rookie story. I have not been driving in a couple of months and I'm not sure I've got the shifting down it's been awhile since I drive. GOOD QUESTION Does Yrc have any additional training before they just throw the keys at you and say drive. I'm really just looking for information on my situation and trying to figure out what to expect from the position I'm starting at and where or how all this will play out. What A Rookie Thanks for any information Tannett4731

If they just throw the keys at you don't do it. You're risking more than you know. If something were to happen, and there's a very good chance it will since you have no training, you might find yourself in a jail cell. At a minimum study the little green handbook inside and out to know the rules. Get with someone that will help you ,even if you have to spend your own time doing it. It's crazy to think that a company would do such a thing. I guess they have a department that just sits and figures lawsuits vs damage and it's cheaper to trash the driver and pay anyone off that's involved.

Master FMCSA Interpreter I don't believe they will just throw the keys at me. I've stopped driving for about 2 months after I received my CDL and all endorsements. There is a old saying if you don't use it you will lose it. I know how to drive a truck but I started learning in Iowa and received my cdl there. Came to Kansas City to find a local gig. I was hired on with yellow freight as of today. Sounds like you may have took me wrong. I'm started on the dock and working myself back into a driving job. I was just hoping they will give some additional training to get me back on track drive. Everybody knows the ROOKIES Story. WOW
