A friend of mine drives a Kenworth T700 2012, with a 160 amp alternator. He wants to know can he run a straight 6 pill. I think he said it draws about 110 amps. Also he'll be dumping a galaxy 94hp into the 6 pill to drive it....that's what? About another 25 amps? Think he'll be able to do it
Also if the 94hp is going to make it too much, will he be able to drive that 6 pill with a 45 Watt radio. Thanks in advance for advice

Never mind. He called a few shops and they all told him the same thing. Run the 1×6 with a regular radio and you'll be fine.

I ran a 6 pill amp in my little plymouth that only had a 95 amp alternator. I used a Cobra 148Gtl to drive it but it I modified the cobra with an internal board that allowed to do about 45 watts and the 6 pill did about 1000 peak watts and a little over 600 average power. I will admit that a night when I would run SSB mode it would make the headlights dim on the power peaks which on SSB were about 700 average and 1200 peak.. It should be possible to do on AM I dead keyed to amp right at 3 watts but it hit the 600 average mark on the high peaks which on my amp gage showed about 85 amps.. usually the 110 amp number you talked about is maximum amps and they generally run a little lower.. The radio will ask for about 20 amps if it's working as it should so he would be running on the fringe when you remember the truck will ask for 45+ amps normal sailing day and a possible 80 to 100 night with headlights and Air conditioner and all the systems that ask for power..I have put plenty of 4 and 5 pill amps in these trucks with not issues but most were being driven with radios that only asked for maybe 8 amps by themselves. If he does it he must not spare any money on the proper power wire and grounding...But I think he would be able to do it...???

Have the 94HP turned to a 3 watt dead key on low power and swinging about 40.

I run the 94HP and love the radio.
Good clean sound with a Ranger 198 mic on it.
