I've around a year of experience, hazmat, tanker, and dbls&triples endorsements. Looking to leave my indentured servitude company. No huge preferences yet, though I'm partial to getting into open deck or tanker work. Will posting a resume work for this career as it does for others, or do we need to just call/apply online at several places to move on?
Do sites like monster and it's competitors work for drivers?

Heavy haul can be a money maker , if you like staying gone a long time. With one yr. , it might be difficult to break into.
Tankers , now , can pay very well. Some will give you a shot, even with only a years experience.
You didn't say if you've been pilling a tank already, but if you have that'll make it easier.
Certain parts of the country are short-handed , concerning tankers , like Houston, etc.
some are desperate enough to be offering $5,000.00 sign on bonuses. They're structured , you won't get it all at once , but you'll get it. Those offers you'll have to find , though.
Good Luck !Anglammaroth Thanks this. -
I've been pulling van so far. I've had more trouble finding what look to be strong tanker companies than flatbed. At least ones I have the experience to apply with. Been looking at TMC, Lonestar Transport, and Melton in the flatbed world. I live in Knoxville atm, but may be moving to TX in 2014, so that could play a role in my choice too.
I'd like to be home a bit more than once a month, but it's not a deal breaker if the money's right. -
Not really sure how to put this so excuse me if it's vague
Monster is a good site to look at but only for companies that use it. Most of the major freight carriers, Fed Ex, Ups etc are on there. Just because they are listing does not mean you will get a job, nor does it exclude or help you skip any of the steps for employment meaning you still have to apply online via the companies website. Sometimes you can link directly, other times you have to go through Monster
What you can do is basically setup an online resume and create a profile so that recruiters can look you up and you can potentially be contacted via email by a recruiter representing a carrier. You can also setup your account to email you job listings based on the criteria of the job you are looking for.
I believe This is the best feature of these websites because it proactively looks and sends you potential jobs. The downside is that since most of the major carriers use this place you regularly get position listings for these carriers. Eventually you will see the same listings over and over. Every now and then you may see a new company's listing.
Its free so it doesn't hurt to use the service. Just update your profile regularly and see what comes along -
Monster owner is a big lib and anti 2nd Amendment. Don't take my word for it. Check the Google, then boycott Monster.

I stopped using Monster and other resume` sites years ago. A waste of my time and effort.
Each job is unique and it required tailoring your resume` to that job. Resume` sites tend to be generic. Additionally, HR folks are using search engines looking for keywords on your application and resume`. Don't have the right keywords, you don't get looked at. -

The posts since I last posted , just reinforce what I thought.
You have to Find the job you want.
Nobody is gonna find it for you , and , contrary to popular believe , that job is not gonna find You.
good Luck !pattyj and Anglammaroth Thank this. -
I figured that to be the case, but it was worth asking anyway
. Time to grab my TWIC and get the old passport up to date to max marketability!
