    Yup, must speak, read and write English proficiently, they've had to institute drug testing and a results database that matches ours, and... they get a level 1 inspection every time they cross the border inbound to the US. Something else I've heard from drivers who frequent the border areas is that all of this makes on-time delivery in the US very difficult for them to achieve.

    This is an older article, but I've heard nothing to contradict it on OOIDAs Land Line Now program on Sirius radio.

    Low participation, oversight threaten success of cross-border program

    Oversight of the long-haul, cross-border trucking pilot program with Mexico – even with the low participation in the program – was criticized in an interim report issued by the Department of Transportation Office of Inspector General.

    At the time the report was released on Aug. 16 [2012], there were only four motor carriers participating in the pilot program – with only one motor carrier venturing past the border states. That threatens the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s goal of a providing a statistically representative sample of Mexico’s motor carrier population.

    However, even with such minimal participation, the inspector general found five areas where the agency lacked oversight mechanisms – including on drug and alcohol testing – to ensure full compliance with the pilot program.

    "...those of us who are not afraid..." Fear has less to do with that than whose truck it is... If you own your truck... yes, you can play your tricks... but those company drivers can't. Any tampering with company equipment, elog, whatever, leads to termination...

    My company has been improving the "black box" in their trucks. It registers truck's speed, overall hwy speed, top gear, RPMs, brake usage, idling, etc... I drove one of their trucks that would register if truck were sliding too much or going too fast... and a warning yellow light would flash or a solid red light would light up depending on the situation... Others would register every time driver would step too hard on brake... A red triangle would flash on the QC and a msg would be sent to safety department at company. Their trucks are governed at 65 mph. Company has been monitoring their drivers and in order to save fuel, has been suggesting some drivers to slow down to 62 whenever possible....

    Company drivers are turning there trucks up everyday with the ''DR''..Not to mention selling there fuel too...If you think for one second that being a ''do-gooder'' will get you up the food chain,you have a surprise coming.I have seen more ''perfect'' company men tossed under the bus,than i care to remember..

    you make no sense what so ever. they keep adding rules and making changes to keep you the driver safe. I honestly think that the hos should be no more the 12 hours max. and that's no matter how you work it. plus I think that after a 70 hour period is completed. all drivers should have to take a 34 hour break. with one night spent in either a hotel or at home away from and out of the truck. and proof of receipt or letter of release should be shown for each 34 hour break used during a 4 week month.

    Yes, that is pretty obvious. I never mentioned that company drivers had a choice in the matter. What they do is none of my concern. Those of us that own the trucks have the choice. I never advise anyone to do anything to another man's truck. If they do not like what the truck owner does, then they need to buy their own truck, pay all the expenses, and they will have no gripe.
