It seems they do a little extra to help new employees, where other companies don't.

FYI when I came back to Roehl I had to have a sleep test and get a Cpap and 30 days compliance before I could come back, all on my own dime ( Wife works for State of NY so our insurance paid everything) Minimum 4 hours a night 75% of the time. So I don't think they will be an option for you.

Your regular physician did a huge disservice by "investigating it", that means nothing.

I have used a CPAP in the past and I find the mask to be a critical component to 'adjusting' to a CPAP machine. The first style of mask I used, looked something like you see in medical TV shows when they put a breathing mask over a patient, was a big failure for me. However, I tried a different type of mask, this mask looks kind of like an elephant's nose, it comes down from a fixture that sits atop the skull and forehead (elastic straps around the back of the head) and fits over the nose, and, being a side sleeper, I was able to adapt to this style. It does take a few weeks to get used to using a CPAP machine. I understand the frustration. But, with the right style of mask and a few weeks to adjust to it, I sleep all night, in seeming comfort with it and my sleep quality is so much better. I find I go through phases of needing it and not needing it. As a wannbe, I am curious how this is all going to work out with a CDL and DOT. I hope I do not end up being required to wear it all the time, but if it ends up being a requirement for me, I guess I'll have no choice, use it or not drive. Good Luck to you, I recommend seeing if he can try a different style of mask. It helped me.

I agree the mask or nasal pillows make a huge difference. I use a different one than came with the machine and sleep better with it but not as well as without it. I have to use the machine 75% of the nights for a minimum of 4 hours to be compliant, and I do not ever stop breathing at night, my O2 sats were low for a non smoker so they decided I have to wear the cpap to bring my sats from 92% to 94. I think it is a crock of BS but, it is what I have to do to drive for this company.

If you are looking for companies with sleep apnea testing and treatment programs. This is from memory and I make no guarantees on accuracy. Check the individual carriers for more info.
Marten - pays for testing and CPAP - you pay for CPAP if you leave before one year.
Schneider - screening at orientation. Will pay for testing and CPAP but you have weekly payroll deduction.
Swift and Prime... same as Schneider... they get you tested and CPAP but you have payroll deduction.
Gordon - has program don't know how you pay as new hire.
Roehl - has program
Hope that helps.Last edited: Apr 16, 2013
