Certain states permit weight based on the amount of sidewall, and this is a major (among other major) reason(s) why you don't really find those in heavy haul.

It all evens out, I plan to run 445/65-22.5 SS all around, what you loose on max weight load V 11R-24.5 duals is made up on the reduced weight of dual wheels V S/single, they ride much better, than duals. + if you do loose a dual, that new tire won't match the old, so done right new need 2 new tires !!!Main reason they (US drivers) are not wide spread is fear of puncture etc, they are used wide spread rest of the world, USA is just slow to adopt improvements, like disc brakes etc. To through more controversy I throwing out the Fuller, and going Allison auto + 4 speed Spicer, yes it costs a bit more in fuel, but superior offroad - stop & go traffic -acceleration - drive lines last much longer.just to recap I plan your " Lighter Side "

Here in NY you cant run SS on a non steerable axle with over weight permits. Doesnt mean its right, just you have to consider that if you are going to heavy haul different states with different requirements.

    Don't plan to run NY.
western 11 mostly, and most loads will be legal.

Did some research, google WB wide base 445 & 455 tires and cetanediesel quote is correct many states still restrict oversize / overweight permitted trucks to dual tires on drive. The tide is turning but it's slow many states have done there own studies all concluded that WB tires reduce road damage and truck emissions. So maybe in 5 - 10 years it will be adopted nationwide, but for now must stay with Duals in HH

Study results depend on who's funding the study.

It would be cheaper to buy a heavy haul truck. Look at Blackwell truck and trailer down in eastern Texas.. Good guys. To take a general freight truck and make it into a heavy haul truck is like taking a bicycle and try to make it into a Harley. Also heavy trucks keep there value alot better than other trucks. If you want to haul 120,000 lbs a 4axle tractor and 3 axle trailer would work best.. Remember you have to spend money to make money.. And it's not a good idea to be cheap on the truck . Remember when your truck breaks down... Somebody is waiting for that equipment.

Super singles are alot different than wide base. 425-66r 22.5 are normally 18 ply and have a load limit of 10,400 lbs. the wide base sidewalls aren't made for 40,000 - 46,000 loads. A few states don't recognize the super singles along with duals on the rear axles. As for the states coming around? Don't count on it. Murray trailer went to a big meeting Where all the state DOT people were meeting . Proved that 16 tire trailers are better for the roads, they all agreed that was true... And look how many states recognize 16 tires at 60,000 lbs. 8or 9 and that's it.

But Jerry is far too proud on his prices. I have looked at $50-60k trucks he had, that he wanted over $70k for. He is the Shelby Elliot of Tx IMHO. Clean stuff, but you pay dearly for it. I couldn't do a deal with him on a WS he had, which turned out to be a blessing as I got a killer deal on a new one.
