All of you guys are very inspiring and especially Blue Sparrow cause she is a woman. I too am a woman and thinking about truck driving thinking really hard......some days I think I'm crazy but most of the time I think it would be good for me I love to drive just not sure about the shifting part. Anyhow this forum has been very helpful and inspiring and I am grateful for all the information that all you so graciously share.

    Thanks!

We're glad you're here, diamondz! If you decide to go to training, if your heart is in it, you WILL learn to shift! I really struggled with shifting when I began because of an "impossible..." instructor! I found a way through the obstacle though, because my heart was invested. And that instructor was not part of the solution!

Many trucking companies have refresher course. I read that Marten Transport now has one, but don't know the details. FFE, Paschall Truck Lines, and many others. Maybe Schneider also.

Aw, reverse thrust, I did Trucks, then Computers, then Trucks again. You will be just fine.

The shifting is easy. I've been told that if you've never driven a stick before, it's even easier, since you don't have to unlearn the habits from driving a car with a manual transmission. (Things are done a little differently.)

Cool attitude. When i get my lic in a couple of months, you can hire me. I'm really old! LOL
Just waiting for WIA and then school. If Millis in Burleson was on their list, I'd go there, but suspect that wont happen for few years.
    Take care,
    Mary

If I were you, I'd stay at your current job. You will take a huge pay cut and loose great benefits by going into trucking. You say you use to make six figure salaries, but I would imagine you still make decent money considering how long you've been employed in that field?

Sometimes money isn't everything. Hugely important, to be sure. Still, it's all about what makes ya happy.
