I figured I would toss my 2cpm in the ring too. Yes I am a trainer, but I do run as a solo a bit, because I need a break every now and again. Here are my stats from my 2012 taxes. Total gross income $79,847 (that's after expenses but before taxes) I was on the road 332 days.
From my notes I had 7 students. I had 3 negative checks (two were back to back after taking 10 days off) preformed all required maintenance replaced a set of steer tires and put about 210,000 miles on Clifford in his first year.
On home time I had a few issues with my old dm the 2 big ones being missing the "sex" ultrasound where we found out we were having a girl and showing up to church 5 min before my daughters baptism (oh yeah jeans an a polo in all the pics as I don't keep a suit and tie on my truck). Since I got on Kraft I have not had an issue getting home. I even requested 3 days off for Easter and Rodger knew he could not run me right up to it so he got me home 2 days early and got me $120/day in layovers pay. So the dm is a big factor. Time is also a huge one. An example I just told Rodger today I will need a load from Portland to Chippewa falls, wi in August so my wife and I can go on a road trip and attend her grandfather's 100th birthday party. That's 3mo notice I think it will be ok.

In what world do you tell a driver that you will load someone else's load on his trailer, and he will have to wait until another central trl comes in so he can get loaded? I brought an mt, you put the product on it (expletive deleted)!
Arkansas Frost Thanks this. -
FRUSTRATION!! Talk to your DM... They will probably say to let them (the customer) do it, but you should be able to get detention at least! No compensation for sure, but its something... Is the driver for the other load there? Maybe he had to do the same thing, and was waiting for the trailer you brought in... A vicious circle...

My dm doesn't get in until 0700 mst. I'm running another trl to a washout so I can get my load. I won't get detention, because this was a preload, supposed to be ready last night. This load is late, my next load is late TO WALMART! Yeah, it's not a good day.
Ive never heard of a place refusing to put your load on your trailer. -
Yeah, that's kinda stupids sounding. Refusing to load you? Wow.
-
Well load 2 is pulled, and I'm a "work in" because I was "late".
Dispatch has me shuttling trls from amcold to Kraft in the mean time. Hopefully the pay for it is something fair. I figure I lost $100 at least by losing that other load. Just hoping I get a drop on this one and a preload out of aurora or champaign to get back on track.
Ok, done complaining. Last pay week was 4800 miles, so I'm due for some abuse. -
It's not much but Rodger has gotten me $40 in "shuttle pay" to run an mt over to a wash out. And that was from Kraft
passion4polishing Thanks this. -
So if I'm shuttling 2, were talking 80, and maybe another 40 for the one I took to get washed out. I'll take it. Thanks for the info moose.

Be safe, be respectful, be on time.
Ice Train Thanks this.
