Hi,
I got a ticket for tailgating in my personal car. That carries five points in NJ. I got it reduced to unsafe driving and no points. I am currently working and I was not fired for the ticket. I called JB Hunt to ask about a hourly paid position and they said that unsafe driving is like reckless or careless driving. They wont touch me for five years. How bad is this unsafe driving and am I grounded for they next five years? If any crash dummies have been let loose on the scene please don't reply.
Thank You
Unsafe driving ticket

Do you have a CDL? Tail-gating is just as stupid as driving while drinking...It makes no difference if you're in a car or a truck...still a stupid thing to do. Even if you got it reduced they still wonder if you've learned anything....that sort of in-patience has absolutely no place in the trucking industry. Really dumb as well as UN-professional. And yes it may keep you from getting employed ...as it should.

Thank god this forum has the honor of Mr. Perfect gracing it. Without you he would have never known he was in the wrong. I guess in your "33" years you NEVER received any points.

"Wow", A student lecturing a driver with 33 years. I must have missed something in my 49 years of life.millsjl01, Ghost Ryder, Giggles the Original and 6 others Thank this.

Runaway, many here on the forum are a perfect as they come off as.
Becasue they work at it, and like me take their jobs very seriously.
If your not willing to take this job as seriously as a doctor does open heart surgery, than I suggest working for McDonald's.Giggles the Original, GasHauler, Raiderfanatic and 8 others Thank this. -
How hard is it to NOT tailgate?Ghost Ryder and Raiderfanatic Thank this.

how long do you have to be on someone's bumper before it's considered tailgating?
-
I absolutely agree with Tonythetruckerdude, but maybe he worded it harsher than some can stand.
Allow me to sugarcoat: tailgating is bad! It is dangerous, stupid and reckless. No one likes a tailgater. You put everyone around you at risk and demonstrate that you are selfish and inconsiderate in the process. ALL that matters to *you, the tailgater, is where you want to go and how fast you want to get there. Not the safety of those around you.
Its true, you should consider looking elsewhere for employment...not that NO one will hire you but...those that will, you wouldn't want to work for anyway and the last thing *we need out here is another impatient butthead behind the wheel of an 80,000lb, 13.6 foot tall, 80 ft long, battering ram on wheels.
My husband is a classic tailgater and I absolutely loath it. I can't even ride up front with him, it makes me ill, all that slamming on the brakes and ripping through the gears only to slam on the breaks again, then snatch it through the gears again....ugh, I'm getting nauseous thinking about it. His days would be so much less stressful on him (and me) if he would just back off and drive like he had some sense. *sigh
A tailgating vehicle be it truck or car, usually has the opposite effect of what its going for. 90% of the time I will slow down till they back off. Especially in construction or congested areas. I will not be bullied by a pissant teenager in a Honda civic or a punk 24 year old in his jacked up pickup. Ain't gonna happen
oh, well....that wasnt much nicer was it....sorry but sometimes the truth hurts.Dinomite, scottied67, misterG and 1 other person Thank this. -
LOL, thats funny....No one ever called me Mr. Perfect....runawayload , the OP came on the forum and ASKED what was a legitimate question , and I tried to give the answer that he with his limited experience NEEDED to hear....it would serve you well too as a student to listen to it...tail-gaiting is /was/ and always will be STUPID.....Get mad and call me silly names if you want to....but the fact remains that I drove for over 3 decades and I'm going to guess 2 1/2 million safe, accident free miles.....that in itself should carry some weight...to those that know , it DOES...to those that don't well...after you go out and do it , come contact me and we'll talk. I'll tell you one thing and I won't respond back to you anymore cause you already know so much more than I ...If I were an instructor in whatever program you're currently enrolled in , and I heard you make a comment like that..you would be dismissed with a refund....cause you've just proven that you don't belong in this industry....for this simple reason......you can't be taught anything....when a driver starts his career he is considered a trainee , and whether his driving career lasts a week , a month , or 50 years....he will always be a trainee...experienced , but forever learning... you'll do well to take this to heart....................
