Have one very similiar, only a Cummins. In and out of fields with it everyday, lots of dirt roads, 80,000 + at times. The running gear will hold up, but the interior of a F/Shaker is weak. Dash breaks up, doors are shoddy. My cab is in perfect shape, rides good, but a KW, Pete, Mack or International seems to have a stronger interior. It will work for what you want.

Yes it can do the job, but that 10spd may be a liability after awhile. Also, if there are any significant grades you're at a real disadvantage with the large gaps between gears common to most 10spd transmissions.

I would say with the 3.90 you will be fine in the power side of things....if not upgrade later but I would not go with an 18 if its was given to me brand new for free....call any good tranny guy and they will all tell you an 18 is to soft and cost to much to rebuild. if you need more gear options either a 13 or a 15 or and 8LL. Yes the truck your looking at will do it just fine. Heck we had an 89 fld120 made into a tri axle that beat around the woods 7 days a week across pa dirt, rock asphalt roads and other places where you just pointed the hood and went for it and never had a problem with it. would take a better beating than the mac we bought after it for a drivers truck.....might want to go up to 11r24.5 which will make you faster and take away some power but give you more clearance...

Same plastic, different engineering and design. Some have better re-enforcement than F/Liner .Thicker plastic used in better trucks.
