And it's doubtful if any school keeps newer models.
Would you, if you were training people that tore up trucks in the learning process?

Gonna have to be with the caliber of driver they're pushing out of the schools these days. Can't shift, can't trip plan, can't log but hey they can mash on it and make it go anyway.

Looks like you will have to use Google and the yellow pages and make some phone calls. I drove an automatic for a few months when the company was testing some trucks looking for what to buy next. It was a Volvo with Volvo engine & Volvo automatic transmission. I was pulling a liquid hazmat/tanker, 48 states & Canada in all weather/all terrain. Most comfortable driving I've ever done in my entire career. I enjoyed sitting back with my hot coffee & letting the transmission do the upshifting/downshifting in the mountains & in the flatlands & in the heavy traffic. I have nothing negative to say about automatic transmissions.

That's what everyone was saying 25 years ago. If you can't drive a standard shift, you don't belong behind a truck's steering wheel. If a company has auto trannies, it's because they pay so poor, good drivers will not drive for them, so they have to cater to the less capable applicants.

Here is a hint for you:

Don't believe what the people who use autos tell you, when they start telling you how the whole world is going to come over to their way of thinking a few years down the road.

Reminds me of the guy who kept telling me all these fun facts about how healthy chocolate was for you. I got tired of hearing him go on and on, so I asked him where he heard so much good stuff about chocolate. "Right here on this candy bar's wrapper" he said.

(Mumbling to myself)"guy's been driving 1 year, and he's going to tell everyone how trucking is gonna be in 10 years....HAHAHAHAHA!"

I drove a Mack auto for awhile, also pulling tank. The pickup of the engine surprised me, very fast and strong. The shifting was very smooth and the engine the quietest truck I ever drove. If this is the future of trucking, so be it. Very well-built truck, easy on fuel. The designers of this truck must have listened to the drivers in regard to what they wanted as far as an automatic.

Seriously though does it matter? As long as the equipment is DOT ready it should'nt matter how old everything is.
