Haulhand you are correct. That pic is an expando.. Turn left and open one side. turn right and open the other side.
No air ride that I have seen. All walking beam buckboard ride.
And yes most people call them trunion trls. Ca. Az. Nv. Nm. and tx. will allow them, most of the other states will not give you the weight for all the tires. To small of axle grouping.
And yes from the people I know that run them, they can be a pain if you are lded. and have an inside tire issue.
Buddy of mine runs a company in Phoniex. They have them..
But they do not go east of Nm. -
I have always called them a CALI RGN since that is the only state I've seen them run in a small configuration like that. All the one's i see in Texas usually have 4-5 rows of axles, about 40 tires total and hauling some BIG ol' crap.

ive also only seen them in cali and maybe nevada and a few western states. saw a guy yesterday up here at home pulling a high track 6 on one and you know your out in the woods when each track has at lease 4-5 inches of overhang and theres notta one oversize sign or flag on it

You can add UT, WY, CO, and ND to the list of states that are allowing more weight on them than just just the typical tandem. The reason is that they are popular with the Canadian rig movers that have moved into the states. AB also gives massive weight on wheelers and they have trailers with 24 wheels at the back. I used to have a 16 wheeler that I pulled and while it was air ride it still rode rough as heck. Although I liked to put 100k on the deck and follow a water truck out of locations made the road so much better for the rest of my trucks.
