I installed SP3 on my home Xp system and it works fine. It is a very large file though.

I bought the same system you are talking about, Cav, and took it back 17 days later, because it crashed.
I spent 6 hours yesterday trying to load photoshop on a vista laptop for my assistant. What a flipping nightmare. Only after doing several hours worth of research did I find ONE site that actually shows you the right way to load old programs on Vista.
If your loading from a CD, do an explore on the CD drive, find the setup.exe file and then right click and go to properties. From there there is a tab that says Compatibility. From there, you can select to run the program from the older type systems compatibility. Then you can actually run and install programs that aren't Vista complaint.
What I don't get, is why in the heck are they keeping this feature a secret? I only found one reference to this feature on the internet.
I believe that this is the cause for slow downs, as well as slow loads. So if you find your regularly used program executables, you can change them directly on your system to run in a certain compatibility. It might speed up your computer considerably. Coupled with getting rid of the bloatware on the system, you might actually survive the switch.
Thank the circuit heads at Microsoft, for keeping that little feature a secret.

A lot of vender's like "Dell" add junk on your pc. They are trying to sell more than a trial version of the software that is on your pc. You may have a program on your's that lets you unselect those.

Maybe you needed an upgraded version of Photoshop? I have Photoshop as well as Paint Shop Pro on my Vista laptop and both installed quickly and with no isses and both run smoothly every time I use them.
Was she trying to install an old version of Photoshop, maybe? Some older versions of software don't work on Vista because it's completely different from XP.
And, yes, that "compatibility" feature is a great way to get a lot of things to work on Vista when they don't want to.
Dell doesn't add too awfully much to their laptops compared to some others but it's really easy to remove that "junk" as soon as you turn it on

Somebody is getting rich off all these fix vista programs, and you should have to buy third party software to make your system perform up to your standards. Microsoft should be worried, because this Op system is going to be the death of them, if they don't start educating people on how to use it properly. Also, how many people want to run out and buy all new peripherals that will work on Vista. I did, because I HAD to, but I know people that are wiping the system and loading XP, because of the slow down and lock ups that Vista causes and incompatibility with cameras, printers, scanners and the like.

You know what? It doesn't matter what version of Photoshop it was. When you spend $600+ for a program and used it fine on XP, then you should be able to load it on Vista. Adobe only supports the most recent version of CS3 to run on vista. They are in bed with Microsoft on this one.
Microsoft released a low grade op system here with limited backwards compatibility. Thats not right. -
I use Firefox as my web browser most of the time. it is free, it has No add ons, runs faster

You can't put old Microsoft Windows 95 stuff on your XP machine. It's the same thing. If you don't want to upgrade, stick with the old computer and system you had. If you want to upgrade, you have to pay the price.
Most places sell computers with XP on them now if you ask. -
Yeah, I just bought one of the newest Sony Vaio's a couple of weeks ago and it has Vista on it. I'm still learning to use it and don't really like it so far. I was thinking of dumping it and putting XP on it. But I figure I'll use it another month or so and see if I can tolerate it. I have XP on my desk top at home and and the one I use at my part-time job. I like XP better than any I've used, and had far less problems with it. One problem I have with Vista is there are so many updates when you turn on your computer and mine won't let you do anything until the updates finish. I think I've learned how to stop them now, but everyone says Vista and the updates will load your machine up and slow it down. I guess we'll see.
By the way Cybergal, what the heck did you do to your avatar picture? Spooky!!!!
