But from 95 to XP your talking about 2 generations. I would expect that. Not 1 generation. There has to be some level of backward compatiability with business software, otherwise a "business" won't waste the money to upgrade to a new version of Windows.

That's the biggest issue with business. You can't afford to upgrade every piece of off the shelf software just because Microsoft decides to add some cool gadgets you can't use to an operating system.

I've noticed programs like easy share are checking for updates too often. I would disable auto updates for everything except virus programs and maybe microsoft.:biggrin_25520:

Most businesses aren't switching to Vista any time soon. Eventually they will but, for the moment, they are not.

Also, the hardware that doesn't work with Vista is often NOT Microsoft's hardware. THEY are responsible for making it work with Vista, not Microsoft.

I can still use Office 2003 on Vista. I can still use Paint Shop Pro 9 on Vista. I can still use a ton of things that I used to use, including my keyboard, mouse, display, etc.

There's not a heck of a lot that is NOT compatible with Vista unless you are a gamer or using very specific software that was designed for XP.

You should go after those hardware manufacturers to get their rear in gear to make them compatible with Vista (with a patch usually - free) instead of getting angry at Microsoft. After all, they warned everyone Vista was coming YEARS in advance so why didn't the hardware manufacturers step up to the plate and get to work on a patch?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Microsoft lover but you do need to remember this is not ALL Microsoft's doing. Their older programs work, for the most part, on Vista.

And TURN OFF AUTO UPDATES!!! Let them run overnight when you're not using your computer if you really want to run them. I don't do updates. Period.

I try to limit my exposure to Microsoft as much as possible. I use Firefox or Opera instead of Explorer, OpenOffice instead of Microsoft Word/Excel.

My next laptop will be an Apple. It shouldn't be too long before one the laptops around here blows up. I can't wait.

I'm not talking about using Stuff for windows 95 on a Vista system. I'm talking about the build that was made for XP.

Search google. The only photoshop recommended for Vista is CS3.

CS and CS2 will not function properly. I paid good money and multiple license fees for that program. I do professional work with my machines. But I will not spend thousands of dollars for software, so that I can have the latest Microsoft screw up. LOL

I personally think that there needs to be a compensation for businesses and home users from Microsoft, for the lack of backwards compatibility built into the new software. Forcing people to buy everything new, just to get support from them on a op system is WRONG!!!

For those that are still running XP SP1, you better download and install SP2 soon, or your going to be out of luck!

I run Photoshop CS1 on Vista and it works perfectly. No hassles whatsoever.

Anyone remember when XP first came out??? It was AWFUL!! No one used it at all at first. Then they came out with SP1 and that helped a lot. I didn't switch to XP until SP2 came out. Give it time.

SP3 is still a beta, is it not? And not recommended to be downloaded yet if you really depend on your computer. If you have a "spare", then it is okay.
