What version of Vista are you running? I'd be curious to know, because the program WOULD NOT LOAD, until I turned it back to XP compatibility. And she is running Pro Ultimate on the laptop. She's also had problems loading other programs that STATE that they will run on vista. Her build is the latest release.

And what do you use photoshop for? Do you do high end graphics that you encapsulate the vectors and fonts for a printer?

I still think that Microsoft holds the responsibility for this mess, because its their op system that is causing the issues. And the companies are refusing to create the patches, because it is such a mess.

Sad thing is, I can't escape using Microsoft, because all of my clients are MS based, or I'd have switched to Mac a long time ago. And we all know that Microsoft stuff on a mac is waaayyyyyy behind the current pc based stuff. :biggrin_2552:

This is what's going to kill Microsoft. This mentality that Microsoft is the only business that matters.

Here's the deal I work with a Pharmaceutical company in Indianapolis. It's one of the biggest in the country. We have over 20,000 employees, and over a 100,000 PC's all over the world. We have 1000's of applications that have been designed in house, and off the shelf products that are not Microsoft products. I figure this is true with many companies. There's going to be a time that companies are going to wash their hands of Microsoft if they continue to take this "Microsoft First" attitude. We fall under very strict federal and international regulations. It can take years for us to validate, test, and approve software. If Microsoft continues to shorten the lifecycles of their products, companies will seriously start looking at investing in other operating systems for relief.

The thing is, you can use XP forever. You don't need Microsoft to say it's okay, just keep using it. I've never ever called Microsoft or used their help anyway so who cares if they "officially" support it or not?

I use Vista Ultimate and I use Photoshop just to play with photos, not to do anything high end. I don't "do" graphics at all - I don't know enough to do that.

I also haven't installed any updates since the day I got my laptop with Vista on it. I find updates just make things worse so maybe some of the updates she has on it kept it from being able to be installed. I also know how to turn off a ton of services to "shut up" Microsoft "junk" so I'm sure that helps, too.

I'd just go back to XP if I were her and you - most people who hate Vista have done so and are now quite happy :)

Linux is nice, so are Macs, but so many people insist on using MS software such as MS Office that you have no choice. People like First Cav, who have a ton of custom software, will probably stick with XP forever as there's really no reason to ever upgrade. Heck, my ex still uses 2000 and it works perfectly fine for him but, at work, they have switched to XP. (You should have heard him gripe about that and it was just last year!!! First time I ever knew more than him about computers!!!)

LOL I would love to do that, but she is also taking college classes and has to have Vista for that. She's got some programs that she has to use for them. If I had the extra Bucks laying around, I'd just buy another laptop, wipe it clean and load XP. But that's not going to happen.

I will, however be purchasing the CS3 version of photoshop, because one printer that I deal with, will no longer take anything older. So the upgrade is coming. I just get sick of my profit margin being eaten up by upgrades. KWIM??? It would be nice to have some extra money for new equipment in the budget, instead of upgrades to keep up with op systems. :biggrin_2552:

Like I said, I've always been a Microsoft supporter. I really have. The computer world would not be as evolved as it is without Microsoft opening the door. They open the world up to computers. This is where the linux people have failed. Linux people want to keep it techy. They don't want it to be gui driven, over enflated with the bells and whisles. That's what will make linux a great business tool, but the average joe will hate it and not understand it.

The average joe doesn't understand, or care about these things, lol. As long as the system loads the games, connects to the internet, nothing else matters, lol.
