As I get closer to my CDL (2 weeks) I think Im leaning toward flatbeds at this point. Does anyone know which flatbed outfits have a decent amount of loads or maybe a terminal near the Grand Rapids Michigan area?? I dont mind running the roads hard but I also don't want to run into problems getting me home when its my time to get home.
Yes, I know I can go hang out at the stops trying to spot trucks but anyone with experience running or knowing the area would be appreciated. Thanks

TMC and Maverick both run out of your area. I think Maverick is a tad better than TMC, but both very good companies to start with, and I know a few guys at Maverick that have been there over 10 years now. They like it...being a veteran tho, TMC has some very good things to offer you. They take pride in hiring vets

Just started with Boyd Bro myself. Nothing against Maverick and TMC. Both are great companies. Boyd is a great company to. The best advice I can give is DO YOUR RESEARCH! Don't just pick a company for their for what they trucks or what their starting pay is. Do your research and pick one that you find fits you. Another thing is flat bedding is not for everyone. Its more than sitting behind the wheel.

Thanks guys. I've started some research and I know some of them do hire in my area. I just want to see if people know how much freight that Roehl, TMC, Maverick, etc. actually get up into West Michigan. Also just checked with Boyd and they don't even hire in my area... oh yeah, RC13 Im pretty sure Ive got a good understanding of what flatbedding is all about. Ive been at this a while for uncle sam

good luck Vet, I'm in the same position. Getting my CDL soon and looking to get into a flatbed company that runs in my area...

Look at Modular out of Grand Rapids. I have talked with Maverick and am really interested, but Grand Rapids is on the outer edge of their area; no home ever weekend. Another one to look at is Melton.
WarVet Thanks this. -
A friend of mine drove for Preferred Trucking Services, Inc., Byron Center. I think they have about 10 flatbeds and/or step decks. Family owned. After a year, my friend went back to his previous employer that hauls for Perrigo out of Allegan.

You said "leaning towards flatbed", wondering if you considered Bulkmatic in your area, believe you'll get the home time your looking for.
Know a driver there and he makes 65 and up. He's been there for awhile with little to no complaints. Guess depends on how far you want
to travel too.
