What a great term of endearment I can see it now a trainer co.ing to meet his student for the first time as he reaches out to shake the students hand. "Welcome to Swift may this be the best bottom feeder company you ever work for" hmmm I don't think so..

Well no point in trying to lie on the app. Do an online app that goes out to 25 or 30 companies and answer the questions honestly. If you don't get any response try Craigslist. The insurance company will determine if you get hired or not. Minor things happen. Don't shortcut. Get out and look!! Best of luck to you.

 

werner,swift,crengland pretty much all starter companies.Bottom feeder are companies that hire about anybody.They pay the lowest of the lowest wages.Low miles,high turnover rate,very unorganized.Makes drivers sit and sit either waiting for a load trk or waiting till the slow shop gets your trk done.Nothing good comes out of these companies except to get the exp.

By seeing you wear that Schneider sweatshirt, you were let go over accident frequency. Having 2 incidents within 4 days, then a grand total of 4 incidents in 16 months. That s a red flag in safety s and the insurance company s eyes. Schneider probably didn t want to risk a 5th accident potentially being a major DOT preventable. Try some of the local career centers for companies looking for drivers. They may overlook the fact that you were a new driver, now its up to you to pay more attention to detail and learn from your mistakes

 

pattyj hit it. I would consider any company willing to hire students without a CDL or with no experience a bottom feeder. It's nothing against the new driver, minus the fact they keep on accepting low paying jobs with companies that act like their policies are God's word.

One mistake that a lot of beginners make is rely too much on the internet. They say bottom feeders are their only option when this isn't true. Most of the time, they don't bother looking at companies that don't advertise, when 9 times out of 10 the companies that don't advertise are the better companies to drive for. Someone will hire you. You just have to look beyond the internet.

 

In my career totaling 4 years OTR spanning a timeframe of 15 years (wow, has it really been that long? ) I have had three accidents.

1. Caught the fender of a mint condition 1986 Jaguar XJ6 in a right turn squeeze in downtown Tampa, FL. Cost Stevens $4600 and me $300 of the deductible.

2. Tore the corner of my trailer on a low bridge in Buffalo, NY. Cost me $1186.

3. Smashed in the left corner bumper (Volvo) on my truck maneuvering in a tight area. Going to cost me $100 to repair. Luckily El Paso has lots of body shops who will do work for cheap.

We all hav our bad days. When you get a new job, be more careful!
