Hey all,
Recent grad here. I have a phone interview with Schneider tomorrow for a OTR Tanker position.
I already took care of my TWIC/Tanker/Hazmat endorsements before I graduated to make things a bit smoother for me.
As of 2013, what are some pointers you all might have?
Pros
Cons
Are the Tankers still Smooth Bore or do they have baffled also?
ect ect and ect.
Thanks
Tankers the Schneider way

It depends on what you're hauling. You can have smooth bores, Baffles, or bulkheads.
Sillen Thanks this. -
I run chemical tanks and they are smooth bore, though some do have multiple compartments.
Sillen Thanks this. -
It would seem, depending on what is hauled that tankers are selected based on the density of the material.
IE. Thicker = Smooth bore
Thinner = Baffled/Bulkhead
Or does it not matter?
Thanks -
Your common chemical tanks are baffle free so the customer can inspect the cleanliness. A well designed baffled tank can be cleaned by modern methods BUT the loader cannot see this.
BTW 7500 gal of acetone in a 8000 smoothe bore tanker does not 'slop'...it Jiggles like Jello!Sillen Thanks this. -
I can't stand it anymore !
walking the catwalk is all about falling off , on some companies property , and them getting sued.
Tire : underflated ? Don't air it up ? Call a service truck ? Good Grief ! I know you're a co. Driver trainee , but that's just B.S. afraid it Might blow up ? Yea , I'm afraid my tank might roll over . They both Can happen. I understand you have to learn the B.S. first , an there's a lot more of it today , than there was when I started , but for Heavens sake , does Pumpkin think everybody's as dumb as a rock ?
Arrrcggghhhh!DADof3 Thanks this. -
you better dam well worry about them ! Bout the time you don't , one of those crazy " I'm late for whatever" fools will do something Stupid , and you'll spend 8 hours writing accident reports , and doing Drug Tests , if you're lucky.
Tell your Trainer I think he's a F**kin Idiot ! -
Also , stainless pads , extra gaskets , extra plugs an caps , cause a TW can destroy those plastic ones quicker than you can draw a puff on a smoke . And , they'll conviently " Lose " your stainless steel ones . -
i wanna be one of those ! Is 35 years enough ?
They probably make Megga Bucks !
Oh . I gotta be " Trained " ? Oh, we'll !
LOL! -
No wonder Pumpkin gets the loads . They're undercutting everybody.
