Many of the ones going to companies like Werner are new to the industry and don't have a clue hat they're about to face.Look at the websites, they glamour up their company..They leave alot of stuff out because they know noone will drive for them if they know the real truth. Then you get many that do have the exp and can find much better companies but prefer the bottom feeder companies.Ive had my share of bad companies. Now that I have the exp I on't settle for bottom of the barrell companies any longer.Far as the pay goes, well every carrier pays an insulting wage. They give the big boys the pay they do not deserve and pay pennies to the backbone of the company.
When did Werner get this bad?

I like working where I am at, like all jobs, some things get under your skin. I am a daycab driver and I don't have the luxury of having a bed in the back, but I am home everyday. So, if I get tired, I can't stop somewhere and get some sleep. A lot of times, they make me run out my 14 hour clock, but not all the time. It's not a bad job, I love the people I work with, meeting people on my routes and seeing people at the consignees and shippers over and over again. It is nice talking to them.AndrewMemphis Thanks this.

So you're still driving for Werner?I was with the company for 3 yrs, otr. So I know first hand what the company is like.It was bad then,I can only imagine what its like now.Werner sn't the only company that chases ppl away, every starter company has a high turn over rate.Either because low pay and low miles, not a good combination.Too much sitting, too much northeast. Then some ppl quit trucking all together because its not at all what they thought it would be.Trucking does take alot out of you and to succeed in this industry you have to have thick skin. What do you mean they make you run out of your 14 hr clock.Be firm yet respectful and tell your dispatcher you're not going to run over your hours and head back to the terminal also start getting some sleep at night.Being tired and driving makes it for a long day.

Even with that, I'd still do whatever I could to stay awake. Energy drinks, soda, coffee, etc. -- get out and stretch your legs, turn the AC on full blast. But I'm sure you've tried all of those things too, right?

It's not the drivers fault. Or rather, intelligent drivers that know how to do research on a company and know what they are worth. It's all the apathetic drivers that just can't be bothered to read anything on the company they are getting hired by, or drivers too new to understand the differences, or drivers to desperate to go somewhere else, etc. etc. You see it on here almost every day where a driver says he has 20 years experience then hired on with CRE or JBH and has to complain about the crappy pay and treatment, while the rest of us can only sit there and say, "Well, it's not like there aren't tons of posts here saying the same thing.... why didn't you bother to do your due diligence?"
Equality doesn't mean equal outcome for all, it means equal chance to succeed for all. Some are going to fail because of their own stupidity and blaming the rest of us for it isn't going to change that.drvrtech77 Thanks this. -
I remember when I started driving back in '92, a driver had to DIE before there was an empty truck at CRE! They didn't want to even talk to anyone if you didn't have at least 3 years OTR! That's where the founder of Swift started driving. He and Randy Knight (Knight Transportation) started Swift and then started collecting companies. Remember MS Carriers our of Memphis? Or Dick Simon? Both wonderful places to work until they became part of the "Swift Family of Companies".

MS carriers, yes.
But Simon, not so much a good place, back even then......
