Also common for them to tag grain haulers that way too.
-
You can spec your truck prewired, but Qualcomm isn't the only player any more.
-
I have hauled grain, but not there, that stretch cuts across from 63 to I-90, and gets all kinds of trucks because it saves miles and time if you are going west on 90 or going east and south on 90 and 63.
The timing was Saturday evening, I had a restart, basically 90 minutes off my 70, not at all what they were looking for. The one I recognized wanted to check the brakes on the trailer, my tractor is a 2013, and he didn't even look at that. Everything was good enough I guess, they packed up and moved on.
The shop does a good job keeping up with things now. -
On the prewired, the trucks we are getting aren't equipped for Q-comm, but they are already set up with data-links in place for other equipment, and the manufacturer and service people are using the links to diagnose problems remotely. The used trucks they had bought had the wiring sticking out the back of the sleeper and even the bracket, as well as the cords inside.
They know if the check engine light comes on or the truck shuts down even if you don't tell them. -
Ok look I'm not a lawyer but there are things you should know.
1) If you run legal you have no thing to worry about at an inspection.
2) You are not required to use e-logs until 2015
3) Qualcomm is not the only company that make e-log systems
a) If you want the Qualcomm system it is $1800.00 to $3000.00 depending on the system and features
b) If your truck was made in North America after 1995 it is already hard wired for the system
c) If cost $42.50 to $99.00 per month to operate depending on services, features, and usage.
d) If you have it installed at an authorized Qualcomm dealer it might take a day due to them being busy but it takes about an hour and the warranty it for as long as it is in that truck.
4) Contact your local Trucking Association sometimes they have discounts or may even have leasing options with e-log service companies.
5) When you decide on which option you want contact the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) at SBA.gov or call 800=827-5722 and ask about grant money to get your small business in compliance with new federal regulations.
Oh and by the way Qualcomm were a--holes who push these laws thru D.C. so they could sell more systems and insure future sales so you might just want to think about that while your shopping around. -
It's a fleet management tool, but then again, so are the competitors.

I was, I thought I had both posts quoted.

Who's to say if and when this will ever happen. There is NO, I repeat NO current mandate being implemented, only in discussion like it has been for years now. The current highway bill has now been put on the back burner with the DOT focused more on security than monitoring. They can't even get the HOS finalized after how many years now?? You will no doubt see the EOBR issue fought back and forth in the courts for many years to come......if anybody tells you they are coming soon, like in the next 2 years, they are simply misinformed. I see no way anything gets passed before the 2016 elections. After that it will be a new administration and everything will be up for review and the whole deal starts all over again. I love gridlock......!!!Lamont T Jackson and MJ1657 Thank this.

Xata is now XRS . They connect to the truck with a union where the diagnostic tools plug into the ECC . No upfront costs , only about $35 monthly .
I wouldn't buy an EOBR to avoid inspection . The more trucks they are put in the less chance they will keep you from being inspected . Some states actually target trucks with e-logs . Drivers are required to carry a certification certificate for the system and an instruction sheet for LEO's . If the driver can't produce those or doesn't know how to show data from last 7 days he can be put OOS .25(2)+2 Thanks this.
