Has anybody esle ever quit driving for an amount of time because they had too much on their mind? I've had some things happen in my personal life and don't feel that I'm safe to drive so I took yesterday and probably the rest of today off to get it straightened out or at least try too. Part of me wants to leave now and get back in the cab and just go but the other part of me says it'd be a bad idea and quite possibly the stupidest thing I could do. I just don't know what to do. Kinda been that way since saturday with everything though right now I'm unsure of everything and really don't know what to do.
Question about driving.

I have had a lot happen in the last year and if its worth anything, just keep going and things will pass especially feeling will start calming down, sort of the sting will ware off, but to make a big change will change things and remind you of what has happend but to stay where you are then hopefully it will fade with each day! hope this makes sense..

Makes perfect sense actually. Problem was actually solved about 10 minutes ago feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders to be honest.

Its never good to be on the road with a lot going through your mind. A lot of bad things can happen. I think you did the right thing by taking a few days off and sort out personal things. Its bad enough you have to deal with shippers, receivers, careless cars and truckers, with the addition of personal matters. The best thing a trucker can do with a lot on his or her mind is to walk away from that truck until you get yourself together. You ll be a lot better off

This is the real ugly side to driving OTR that they don't talk about much and when they do you just pray it doesn't happen to you.
I missed being there when 2 friends, a brother, and my dad died.
I was 2,500 miles away when my daughter attempted suicide.
I was 1,100 miles away when my 2 y/o son was rush to the hospital w/ a temp of 105
I was 3,800 miles away in Yellow Knife, NT, Canada when the mini-van w/ my wife and 4 kids was hit by a truck and all 5 where air lifted to 5 different hospitals in different parts of Florida.
I missed 4 marriage counseling appointments which lead to the last straw for my wife in making up her mind to leave me.
What ever you are dealing with my friend deal with it. Don't worry about your job, if they don't understand just leave them there are 1,000's other companies out there. If you love the company your with just tell them you want to take a leave from work to fix some issues. -
Last year i went through a very painful breakup that left me very disorganized and absent minded, i took a week and a half or 2 off to get my head back where it needed to be.
Sitting in front of 80k at 70+ isnt a good idea if youre not 100% there. -
Doing that RIGHT now--and IMHO--everyone should...as for length of time....that depends on person--situation etc...My rule of thumb has always been--I take at least 48 more hours off--After i get everything else taken care of--since I feel I need at least that much time to decompress from whatever the situation was....Been doing this for years--usually at least 2x a year.....
So relax and go with the flow

Yep. Something at home will put me into almost a rage. Or get me depressed so that my mind wanders.
Driving is the easy part. The costs of being away from home costs you way more than you can ever earn.
On the bright side...if there is one...I find most things are harder on me than they are on the wife. I mean she can deal with the sick kids just fine, but the guilt is hard on me.CDL1968 Thanks this. -
Go on home for a week or so. The bigroad will still be there when you get ready to come back. Go home, unwind. sit and relax until you get to missing that hood. THEN you come back out.
