Miller Transporters vs Indian River Transport

I read a while back, a guy posted he was hired right out of CDL school. They have a terminal North of JAX up in Georgia on I-95. Seems they have a very low turnover rate.

Miller sounds like a good place for company drivers but NOT owner operators. No company should be able to tell an owner how, or when they will get home. Until they pay for the fuel and the truck payment, the owner runs his truck how he wants. I almost signed on with them until they told me I'd have to be gone for 2 weeks minimum. I told them I prefer weekends off and they told me that doesn't happen. I enter to work for QC instead and got right on a dedicated run working 4 days a week.

 

You really can't compare Miller to Indian River. It's apples and oranges but I would say you will make more $$ with Miller hauling chemicals. I worked for IR for 8 yrs and it's a good company but if I had my time over again, I would jump into hazmat and chemicals in a heart beat.

That was actually refering to the company driver side. I don't really know about the O/O's

 

I have done a few unloads beside a Miller driver. Naturally you get to talking. They have all liked the company and have been professional. If I left Schneider I would look hard at Miller.

 

Actually there is only one fleet terminal and that's Richmond In. I run out of the Pittsburgh Terminal and we are all O/O except one driver who is a company driver hired through an outside service. Hometime is when you want it. We are adding more lanes out of the Pittsburgh terminal right now. Since the 1st of the year I have grossed over 100k here but I stay out and work. Leaving tomorrow out of Pittsburgh to go to Spokane Wa and the straight back

 

The one thing about Miller is they are honest and straightforward. As for Miller telling me what I am going to do that does not happen. If I don't want a load I tell them no. If I want to sit at home I sit. I do what I want to do. The key thing here is to communicate with your home terminal and develop a good working relationship with the other terminals.
