Do any of the schools have night and/or weekend classes? I need to maintain my current employment so I can build up my first year "nest-egg".

This school does but it is expensive.
http://www.californiacareerschool.edu/programs/truck-driver/James j Thanks this. -
CCS is very flexible when it comes to hours. You call every week and let them know when you'll be able to be at class. They are a little pricey but not the most expensive. You train with 48 foot dual axle trailers and on a 3 axle truck. If your military prior or currently they'll pay for the school. If your prior military and are post 9/11 you'll get $2,001 BAH while your at the school if you were active duty. 60% I think if your were a reservist.
ZephyrSoCal and scottybones Thank this. -
A 3 axle truck will not be efficient enough training to drive properly. More than likely you will not be driving a 3 axle truck and most companies will not want you if that's what you trained in. A lot of those 3 axle trucks are also synchronized transmissions which means you will not know how to shift a "real" truck properly by double clutching or floating. Best way to go is pay ASD in Fontana 1500 for 2 weeks if you are a fast learner or 3000 for 4 weeks if you want or need the 160 hour course. We have 5 axle rigs that are 10 speeds and we are accredited and licensed. We also have job placement after your course is finished.

You def double clutch and shift the trucks the same way all the semi that are on the road do. Its a Super 10. By 3 axle I mean the tractor. The trailers are 2 axle trailers. I think they are 48 ft trailers. With CCS you can get 720 hours of training if you're available. Its a 15 week course if you do the bus too and a minimum of 20 hours a week.

kury....thanks for the clarification. Meeting with Andrew from the school tomorrow, and if I am satisfied....will go for them. Will attend in Lakeside, the convenience aspect of the training is a plus for me. So I can maintain my current employment and get my finances inline.

Glad to hear that I am in the Twentynine Plams site. I started on 2/14/13 and am just waiting to go to the DMV for my Class B. I already finished my Class A and just finished the rest of my endorsements today. Just need my background check for hazmat.
scottybones Thanks this. -
Met with a fella from CCS....going with these guys. It gonna cost me just over $1,800 out-a-pocket using my Post 9/11 benefits, but I am going to maximize my MHA/BAH by only doing 20hrs a week. This will give me the time I need to tighten up my budget, save as much as I can and get onboard with a company around oct/nov timeframe.

I'm glad it worked out for you. The BAH you'll be making will actually offset the cost of the school.
