Got a question about Superior Carriers: If I drive for them, on my days off would they allow me to live out of my company truck at my home Terminal? My car would be parked there. Schneider for one, allows drivers to do this at their Terminals.

I think they will want to hire people who aren't homeless. Once in a while it would probably be ok but I wouldn't make a habit of it. They own the truck and will use it if they need to. I have driven other peoples truck when mine was being serviced and mine has been used when I am on home time. I live about 40 miles away from the terminal and occasionally stay there when I have a delivery the next morning early.

I'm with rubberducky68--2 inch hoses are much easier to carry around than 3 inch ones, especially in the winter when those hoses get stiff. If the product is thin enough, it still unloads fairly quickly with 2 inch hoses. And if it's thick and takes a while? Well, that's what demurrage is for.

Thanks for the info. I am officially becoming a Texas resident, tomorrow, and will have Residence at my brother's house. He has invited me to stay with him during my off days. I'm just kind of independant so was hoping to stay in the truck more than with him. I can certainly adjust, though.

So, do Superior drivers remove all their possessions from their company truck each time they get back to the Terminal for their off days, knowing that another driver MAY use their truck, as you referred to, till they return from time off?

You could definitely do that some. The deal with your home terminal is they don't pay layover when you are there. If freight gets slow they will deadhead you back to the home terminal and have you sit there rather than out on the road where they have to pay you.

As far as slip seating goes its rare. My truck has been used 3-4 times in 5+ years usually when I am on vacation. I have used another drivers truck about the same number of times. I leave my stuff in it except for computers and such. Its not a problem for the most part except for once when a guy smoked in my truck. I am a nonsmoker so that sucked.

Twicebit, your terminal will let you know if they need your truck in advance if they know you will be off for an extended period of time. Like Rob said, it is very rare though.

Off for my sons graduation and to spend time with relatives. I guess my truck picked a good time to blow a couple injectors and the egr valve! It's sitting down at the Cummins shop getting fixed while I am off.

As it happens, dispatch contacted me last Friday to tell me the local driver with whom I did my training when I was hired was going to borrow my truck on Monday morning. Knowing he has a good sense of humor, I decided to leave him a little prank. I rigged up a fake toilet across the seats, put a bucket underneath, and attached a hose and funnel to some five gallon jugs filled with water and yellow food coloring. Superior must not keep me busy enough, because clearly I have too much time on my hands.
