So a company i am applying for is making me come in and have an interview and making my do a physical test. What does this consist of? I am in shape but cant do a push up or pull up if my life depended on it. Is this anything to worry about?

Some companies also have there own requirements on top of the FMCSA list. Who are you interviewing for?

If you look up Carry Transit's web site they have an excellent video of what a DOT medical exam is and the additional testing they do at Carry Transit. That which is show in the video is the same as what my company does too and might afford you some idea of what they might ask of you.

The physical consists of a history and the actual exam portion. We will go over any health history information from heart to lung to surgeries and medications. There are guidelines put forth (as mentioned above) which must be met (eg. you cannot be on insulin, you cannot have an implantable defibrillator, etc.).

Following this is the examination consisting of checking heart/lungs, abdomen, hernia, urine (for 4 items - blood, sugar, protein, specific gravity), vision, hearing, muscle strength (no push-ups or pull ups ;)

If you are in good health, you have nothing to worry about. The majority of problems that typical drivers encounter is blood pressure and diabetes. There are other problems that may alert a physician such as myself to further investigation and if I were to peg one thing it would be obesity/overweight. Chances are if you have issues in that area you will have 'other' problems (co-morbidities) such as sleep, heart, cardiovascular problems potentially.

    I hope this helps.
