So it goes without saying I got in this biz because my work history up till a few years ago was crap. I can not remember the names of people from 10 years ago. I do know for the most part all the places though. My qiestion, What happens at orientation? West Side Transport asked for a 10 year history when I arrive in addition to the 3 year that they required on the app. They said its a DOT thing. Do all companies need 10 years for the DOT during orientation? How screwed am I if they can't verify a few along the way?

You only need 10 years if you have had CDL driving positions. 3 years for "normal" employment

I really liked the FedEx gig. Excellent pay and benefits, plus I'm home everyday and every weekend. LTL isn't everyone's cup of tea, but for me it's been great.

    This is wrong!

DOT does require carries conducting interstate commerce to have a full ten year history of employment with no space greater than 30 days unaccounted for. The carrier is only require to verify 3 years regardless of what profession you had during those three years.

If someone does have one of these or even several of these spaces in employment all they have to do is have you is put that time on your application marked as unemployed or in jail (if that were the case).

Now if you don't remember who you worked for or when you can use the Social Security web site or stop one of the offices and ask for a records of earnings report that will show every penny you earned in your life, where it was, and the name of the employer. It takes only a minute to print out. Then you can search web in a few minutes have the phone numbers. If carrier asks for a point of contact name or name of supervisor just write Human Recourses.

If you have been in trucking more than 10 years write them down all the places you worked in trucking. It's not required but most companies pay you the more experience you have. Save copies of you taxes too so those driving jobs can be verified even if the company ends up out of business or bought out.

I just checked U.S.D.O.T. site and the 3 year proposal, was shot down twice in 2010 and again in 2012. It NEVER made it to the books!
