FMCSA to eliminate 'defect-free' equipment reports for motor carriers
Motor carriers that operate more than one truck are currently required to retain records of post-trip driver-vehicle inspection reports known as DVIRs, regardless of whether the report shows any defects to the equipment. FMCSA plans to file a rule to eliminate the reporting requirement if a post-trip inspection finds no equipment defects.

Shouldn't affect much, just a couple less file cabinets to worry about. But on the other hand if your company doesn't like to fix things, then they'll just throw them away and say nothing was wrong, so we didn't need one.

Got to love fmcsa never lwave stuff alone. Get rid of reorts and a company does throw papers away r as ther than fix trucks. We will be right back where we are or worst.

You know how it goes when FMCSA plans to file a rule . It'll be years before you see it . As with other rules even if FMCSA doesn't require it anal safety departments will still require it to justify the existence of their personnel .
At QC they have Xata Turnpike e-logs . Part of the basic software includes electronic DVIR's . QC had this option deleted . Have to have paper DVIR's for those people to review . Only thing is a pretrip must be shown on e-logs before driving and a posttrip befor logging off . When those inspections are selected for the truck or trailer the only option the driver has is to select the condition is satisfactory . Isn't this filing a false log when a vehicle has defects ? -
No, because the DVIR, while occasionally attached to company paper log sheets, is not a log. Or so said the safety dept....

Rick, we just went to Xata and ours have a checklist you CAN go thru if you have an issue. It must just be the way they have you setup?
