Have you been using the load boards yourself, too? Just throwing this out there, because if you haven't, and you're running loads others have booked for you, you're missing out on an important facet of business development. Using the load boards is an important step in building a core list of contacts: The brokers and shippers who you'll call in the future directly (or they call you) for your freight, so you can stop using the load boards. This is where you will find better rates and more consistent freight, as well as building a reputation and opening doors to direct accounts eventually. A dispatch service could be just the thing you need, but be aware that you'll remain dependent upon them for this reason. I've no clue about your company or anything, so forgive me if I'm offering irrelevant advice; I'd just hate to see you not enjoy the benefit of building a contact list, and being stuck with dispatch services as your only load source. Good luck on your search!

Speaking from experience here.......I run under my own authority as well. My first year and a half I used a dispatch service. This was 9 years ago. Freight was HOT everywhere. It was easy to make a decent living off the load boards. All my one person dispatch service did was scour ITS, DAT, Getloaded etc. After about a year of it I figured out I could do the same thing. Yep, my wife helped out A LOT signing rate confirmations, setting our company up and the like.
My point is this: You are better off leasing to a company such as Landstar if you feel you need a dispatch service. Getting your authority changes the game of trucking. You're a business FIRST, a driver (trucker) second. After you take into account the fees, possible missed opportunities, compliance issues etc. you're practically at par with being leased to a company. They will take care of ALL the important items. Most importantly.......YOU WILL GET PAID!!Rick_C Thanks this.
