there's only about 2,000 of 'em. If you're on State highways or off the map locations you may not see a lot of us. But once you start seeing us, you really start seeing us. I got to where I don't wave every time on I-80 cuz my arm gets tired!

Just look into the truck stops or the slow lane and you will find them

.
Arkansas Frost and Buckeye91 Thank this. -
Just passed one on 70 west. About 100 miles east of Kansas city.

So I decided to go ahead and join Central but I have a couple more questions. What is a Lumper and does the company pay for that. Also what is a chain monkey and does the company pay for that? I hope the term chain monkey isn't something racist it's a term I heard from a trucker I talked to today.

Lumpers are people that you hire to unload your trailer. Central does pay for that. As for chain monkey, to my knowledge are people who will chain your truck up in the snow for a nominal fee. Lol. Central does NOT pay for this.Last edited: May 19, 2013

Central right now uses Cignsa as a PPO. There's a dental option, vision through Spectera, and other tings you can sign up for. My co-pays for medical that are part of the PPO are $25, although I usually end up at a walk in clinic that doesn't take insurance.
Many tolls are done via a transponder in the truck. The toll gets charged to Central's account. There are some that aren't, last I remember Kansas and Oklahoma were two, as well as a couple California places, but it's been a while since I had to use a toll road. For the ones not covered, you pay, and get a receipt. Then you turn in the receipt in the envelope with your other trip information (scale receipts, bills of lading, lumper reciepts) and they scan in the receipts and reimburse you. Generally you get reimbursed the week you're paid for the trip.Rookie2013 and Arkansas Frost Thank this. -
I know this is a couple days old, but yes, Central does have local drivers. Not everywhere, but there are quite a few of them. Drop yards near larger cities often have locals. I know there's locals in Seattle, Portland, Stockton, Fontana, Phoenix, Memphis, Chicago, as well as the ones near terminals. And, there are intermodal locals in many places there are locals as well.

That would explain why I saw a central truck in the ticket line at the 70 turnpike in Kansas. Seemed weird to me. But makes sense now.

I think Kansas uses a special pass, called a K Pass, and I'm pretty sure Oklamahoma uses their Pike Pass. They are probably not compatible with the EZpass system we use, so Central has drivers pay cash, instead of purchasing 1800 of each pass.Buckeye91 Thanks this.
