I found a clarification:
The NYC trouck route map can be found here. http://www.nyc.gov/html/dot/downloads/pdf/2011_truck_route_map.pdf NOTE: it has not been updated since 2011 (the usual for NYC).airforcetoo and cetanediesel Thank this. -
... but see this is where I dont agree with the DOT/NYPD there (even though they have a lot more things to worry about than length of trailers) cause this is why I say this;
A few months ago I was sent thru NYC. I refused unless I was given a legal trailer. They gave me a 48fter (that's when I went thru the Van Wyck/678 ) They sent me numerous times to Long Island. Fine and Dandy; I lived in the area years ago so it was no biggie but then they sent me over to Brooklyn, I refused.
I refused not because I didnt want the headache but because I didnt want to risk it. Cause after speaking with the DOT over the phone they told me it was illegal so ... 1) I didnt want a ticket but most importantly I didnt want to get in an accident and RISK losing my license cause I know the NYPD or DOT or whoever in court would say "You weren't suppose to be driving a 53fter here in the first place" ... at least that's my two cents. Be safe drivers! -
I had a pickup in Freeport and ran the LIE to NY135 then down and west.. So would have it been possible to run NY27 from I678 to freeport on those service roads?
-
How the heck did you get thru that low clearance from the Meadowbrook Pkwy?!?! It says 12'3"!!!!!
-
Its just on the extreme right side of the road. Its an arched bridge, its at least 13-6 or better on the travel lanes.cetanediesel and airforcetoo Thank this.

Most likely yes. I see trucks getting off I-678 and heading East on North Conduit all the time to join up with NY-27 (Sunrise). DB Schenker (150 Albany Ave. Freeport, NY) runs trucks from JFK to Freeport all the time.
The waste transfer station in Merrick (where I live located right next to Freeport) runs triple axle dump trailers from Merrick Road to Merrick Ave to Old Coutry Road to any number of north south routes to the Long Island Expressway. The latest truck access can be found here https://www.dot.ny.gov/divisions/operating/oom/transportation-systems/repository/2012%20trk%20access.pdf So many of the truck routes here on Long Island are not as intuitive as you think they would be. WARNING: They often change.
The way the traffic is here on Long Island your route while on the surface may not make a lot of sense may have been the path of least resistance. -
Many years ago the 53' rule was explained at Schneider as being a Manhatten only deal, not the other 4 boroughs. I take 53 flats and steps into the city and have not been hassled yet.

What the DOT officer told me that flatbeds were fine cause I asked then why do you have to apply for an oversize permit; she said cause of flatbeds and other shipments that couldnt be broken up in smaller trucks
-
Absolutely! You just get off before JFK and hit 27 and ride the lights out to Freeport (my home town). Where did you go in town?airforcetoo Thanks this.
