Right after I started driving the wife and I were coming back to Oregon from reno late one night hauling logs on a flatbed with bunks chained down, then 5 or 6 straps over the logs. Several deer ran up out of the ditch and I slammed on the brakes , but didn't swerve. Just barely tapped the last one, didn't even knock it down. Rest of the way home was pretty sure I was the worlds best driver in only a few short months of driving. Next morning I was out by the trailer and noticed massive gouge marks in the rub rails where both bunks and 48,000 lbs of logs slid 4 inches forward when I stabbed the brakes. The chains on the bunks were so tight that it was spooky. Since then I've hit several more, but I still won't swerve and only use normal amounts of brakes.

I doubt he was grateful. Probably blamed you because you caused the deer to run onto the highway. It's always the truck drivers fault

The turkey through the windshield gives one pause to consider the dangers of large birds. My codriver had a bald eagle embed itself in his passenger side windshield. He stopped and called the company. They advised him to immediately call the state fish & game and report it to avoid the $10,000 fine and stay put until they arrived. They had to account for every part of the bird, especially the tail feathers (which go for a pretty price on the black market for tribes).

When I read the OP story, I couldn't help to think of this Ron White story.
