Ok, I'm looking on the Truck Paper at Flats. Now here comes more pesky questions for you vets.
What length of trailer do most of you pull? I see flats from 24' to 45'. Do brokers ask for specific lengths or width for that matter ? I see 96' and 104" widths. My experience with working low-sides is that most brokers or companies look for trailers over 30' but not greater than 34'. Looking at flats is a little more info to absorb. Also I have seen a lot of good used trailers advertised, any thoughts on/or problems buying used trailers? (other then the: Do MY Due Diligence)
What other criteria should I look for when shopping for a Flat?
Again, thank you for responding to my "rookie" questions![]()
Flats, Refers, or Vans ect..which is best for O/O?

Well at this point, I'm leaning towards flats.

With a flat you want a 48' 102''! Get the lightest weight you can afford. Meaning aluminum if you can afford it.
I learned this next little tip from a man I respect. He's been driving far longer than me, and has been successful in it.
If you buy a step deck DO NOT BUY A 48' what happens is you have a 40' bottom and 8' upper and for some reason those ride extremely rough. Go with a 51' that way you have a 10' uppper and the ride is MUCH better.
Some of the 48' steps have a 38' lower and 10' upper but the draw back to that is you cannot haul a loaded 40' container with 2' flapping in the breaze. Gooberment regs.
